Agreed...

That much $$$$ in inventory and you dont have a security system or surveillance equipment?

Very sad situation.

I have no affiliation with the track other than being a local karter, so this is in no way to be construed as an official statement from the track management. There may have been one or two karts stolen from the shops inventory, but I believe the majority of the karts were individually owned karts that were stored at the facility.

Is it more than a coincidence that this happened right after the track was re-paved? That would mean more than a few non-karting people around the track for a few days. Just a thought.

The Paving company is litteraly right across the road at the entrance - you can throw a baseball onto their property from the track - in fact they owned the property at one time while the track was there. So it wasn't like a "bunch of strangers" were introduced to the track -those guys play there on concessions too.

Orlando used those big containers for storage overflow - the big Conex types - the garages were like mini storage units - everything locked and very secure - this had to be pros - real pros and they must have had a 53 footer or more..... This was a stunning heist and not one single news station in our market aired it - I think that was a mistake. I have so wanted, my entire life, to just catch one thief in the act..... the scum that hit OKC were probably loaded for bear though.... FLA can get rough....

This robbery sounds very similar to the robbery at Ocale Gran Prix about a year ago. In both cases it seems that the perpatrators knew exactly what they were targeting. Question

I don't believe that it was an "inside job" as much as it was someone very familiar with karting in general. Someone familiar enough with karting, to know about EKN (and maybe even monitor EKN), and familiar with just how small and tight knit the karting community is. This would suggest that in order to "move" this amount of merchandise it would have to be done outside of this country.

The "masterminds" behind the Ocala and Orlando heist are probably very aware of the karting communities in Central & South America, and may have the "connections" to distribute the merchandise. If I remember correctly, they have never recovered any merchandise from the Ocala theft. If it was distributed here in the US, you would think that something would have turned up!

What are the common denominators between the OGP & OKC thefts? I would look at those first! Then begin to possibly put together the pieces of the puzzle.

First of all I would like to thank all the phone calls, e-mails and messages I got from the karting community. I think we have a good community and when the things go bad we forget that we are competitors and we become friends.

I have a friend that is a narcotics supervisor with OPD. Being with narcotics, I don't know if he can do anything, but I'll give him a call.
