| Awesome Greg. Yep, that's the exact same bodywork I have on mine. Front brakes stay cool that's for sure. |

This is a photo of the Zip Bandit before I bought the kart from Don Hupp. First time attaching a photo; hope it works.

Greg -thanks for posting up the brochure, and Dennis, thanks for the original photo (it worked fine). The kart hadn't wandered too far from home, it was in the Chesaning area.
Dennis's build pictures also shed some light on what some original bosses and mounts were originally intended.
Now to finish up some stuff on the garage so I can get the beast back out of the shed and decide on what all to do with it! _________________ Craig Butt / Ohio Valley Region SCCA

One last question for you all before I go off to ponder a course of action. The Rotax 128 makes about how much hp? I know this question is frought with options, opinions, how good a build, and my dyno makes more power than your dyno issues. I have seen "reliable" dyno numbers on the CRS ICC motors I have been running and 43-45 seems to be a good number. I would think high 40's are possible with some non ICC approved mods. If this is comparable to the Rotax numbers, it's just as easy for me to run one of our spare motors on the kart and have parts readily available. Opinions??? _________________ Craig Butt / Ohio Valley Region SCCA

Craig,
Only you hold the answer to your questions.
What do you want from this?
The Rotax will be reliable, so will the ICC. No gain there.
In ICC form, it produces about 4-5 HP more than the Rotax (JW did dyno work on that Rotax) BUT, will that change make the package competitive? No real gain there either, in the big picture.
A full blown FC with unlimited mods will make more power yet, cost considerably more, AND, make marginal gains in it's competitiveness.
The kart will hold you back more than the gain any mod you can throw at the engine package.
There is a good reason why Dennis is on an Anderson/TM KV-95. That Anderson is a PLEASURE to drive, corners on a rail, stops on a dime, has tons of chassis adjustment and is new technology.
It's a Vintage kart. It has old school technology, you would have to destroy it to update it as best you can. I don't think anyone wants to see that. What does that TV car guy say...... Don't crush um', Restore um'!!!
This is just my oppinion. You can do whatever you like with it, just get it to a track!!!!
Good Luck,

Honestly I think your deciding factor will be engine/chain location. You have a left side engine that has a right side drive. If you go with the ICC you would have to either move the chain to the outside of the rear bearing, or make the chassis right side motor....
There's no doubt that the ICC will be easier to source parts, most likely more reliable and without going crazy will give you more power. But is it worth it to modify the chassis setup to get it in there???

Points taken gentlemen - first and foremost, I don't want to cobble up the kart, nor do I have dillusions of it being real competitive.
I was curious if the ICC vs. Rotax is close and/or does the ICC have some advantage in power (it would seem so) and in parts availability (again it would seem so). Now, that said, if it is going to be near impossible to mount and run the ICC without making a mess of what's there, I'll just play with the Rotax.
Now if I can just get finished with winter prep of the two shifters for Solo - I can look more closely at the Zip! _________________ Craig Butt / Ohio Valley Region SCCA

I agree with Robert and Chris and would leave the Rotax mounted. I attached a photo of Doug Mayr's Zip (Franklin Motorsports) which was a fast 125cc Rotax powered kart. He trimmed the fins and layed back the seat.

I found a mostly complete zip bandit under a lean to in rural Louisiana. I gave it to a friend as I had too many projects and he is currently restoring it. If anyone has any manuals or brochures they wouldn't mind sending I know it would be appreciated. From the pictures I've seen of the other bandits his looks almost complete. I'll get some pictures up when I can get them. _________________ Race Old things! |

I will get around to posting up some new pictures soon. I have cleaned up some of the bodywork/wing/chassis and started fixing a bunch of the niggling crap that was just cobbled together. I would like to find a correct clutch pedal (Zip Bandit) to get rid of the odd hand clutch. If anyone has a spare laying about please PM me with a price & shipping to "43214" _________________ Craig Butt / Ohio Valley Region SCCA
