Official Thread: Gatorz Challenge of the Americas - Tucson

2012 will get underway for EKN as the 'Trackside Live' program takes on the Gatorz Challenge of the Americas this weekend at the Musselman Honda Circuit in Tucson, AZ. Now entering its fifth season, the Gatorz program has partnered with EKN to provide its full Live program for each of the three events in 2012.

EKN will be broadcasting on Saturday and Sunday, Qualifying to Main Event both days for all seven Rotax Max Challenge categories competing on the weekend. Daily reports, forum updates, results and photos will complete the full coverage package. Be sure to bookmark www.ekartingnews.com/live . Times of the specific broadcast times will be posted here soon.

The on-track action is sure to be exciting with over 100 drivers set to contest the 'Suzuka'-replica circuit, which will host the Gatorz series for the first time. EKN will publish an event preview - including entry list - tomorrow morning. Until then, post your questions or comments here.

EKN TRACKSIDE LIVE: THURSDAY UPDATE

It's an exciting time here in Tucson as the 2012 Gatorz Challenge of the Americas is underway. Today was an open practice day run by the track, with many of the over 100 competitors taking part in to gain that extra edge for the weekend.

EKN is halfway here with myself arriving during the day and Rob still making his way here from Toronto. Practice is still going on under the lights at the Musselman Honda Circuit, and I must say, I love watching karts under the lights. I think we need to see some night racing here next time we come back.

In between setting up for this weekend's EKN Trackside Live audio broadcast, I roamed the paddock to see many familiar faces and a number of new ones, as this will be our first Gatorz event EKN has attended. Looking forward to seeing the official practice get underway tomorrow, with the transponders on and the official stop watch measuring up the contenders.

EKN will be broadcasting the fifth and final round of the session tomorrow. We will post times in the morning for each group so you can plan your day. Be sure to leave any questions or comments you may have. A big thanks to Andy and his Gatorz staff for welcoming up to be part of the program for 2012.

EKN TRACKSIDE: FRIDAY WELCOME

Official practice is underway here at the Musselman Honda Circuit for the opening round of the Gatorz Challenge of the Americas. A typical Arizona weather type day here in Tucson with bright sunshine and clear skies. Drivers are getting their Rotax engines tuned to the 0.8-mile course, ran in the counter-clockwise direction.

We will be going around taking photos later today to give you a feel of the atmosphere here. Live timing is getting set up and that will be available shortly, with EKN Trackside Live audio coming at the end of the day.

Race-Monitor is now available. We are currently on lunch break, once we get underway, they will be running transponders for the final two sessions of the day.

Hey folks,

We're still getting the Race Monitor up and running, so stick with us and we'll have it all ready soon. I expect that we'll go live with the final session of the day to test the system as well.

Great day here so far. Weather is excellent, blue skies with some clouds and a light breeze.
