What ever happened to Doug Milliken and his special?
One of the other interesting and different roadrace karts with Van K's rear fuel tank kart.

Dick Raczuk of Kendick Eng. has Doug's old chassis and plans to restore it some day. I recently provided Dick with a "show" motor for the project.
It looks like new and it will run but it wouldn't run for long LOL
No idea what became of Mike's rear tank chassis.

I seem to remember the Smith Bunch from Bakersfield bought it from Van K. I think they only ran it couple of times I'm not sure if they put a 125 gearbox on that kart or another kart but they were gone after a couple of more races.

I drove VanK's rear tanker on its maiden voyage at the old Riverside Raceway in Reed Heavy. It was designed to be more aero and it helped but the tank in the back made it a handful in the tighter corners. Turn 7 was a bitch especially since it was off camber and I looped it several times in practice until I figured out that it didn't handle as good as my Open Heavy I was also driving that day and back it down a little! Laughing
As far as what happened to it I have no idea.

Mike

The Van K rear tank kart at one point ended up at Hub Distributing in Decatur Indiana. Sean Sielschott drove it a few times. I'm not certain but I believe it was destroyed in a pretty major endo at Talladega Super Speedway.

Speaking of old "specialty" karts, does anyone remember the "six wheeler" that ran at Mid-Ohio in the late seventies, early eighties. Gene Stafford built it and ran it a couple of times. I have that kart and plan on putting it back together and maybe running it this year. Does anyone have pictures? It was modeled after the "Elf Tyrell" formula one car of the day. Greg O'dell

Thanks Steve, nice guy! Not making excuses but between our crowd and the Dismore bunch and Hegars crew it was hard to get any sleep and keep a clear clear head. Laughing

There was another rear tanker that Mark Weaverling built and ran at Daytona a couple of times with a lot of success if I remember right.. Mark is around messing with vintage stuff but don't know what happened to the kart. Maybe he can post some pics.

Terry Hannum built a 6 wheeler enduro and ran it a couple of time but I think IKF (who had several chassis builders on the board at the time) made it illegal. (Don't ask me where Terry Hannum is, I know nothing!!!! Rolling Eyes )

This is a responce to Jeff Sligh.... Yes I have the Karting Digest edition and artical of that kart Van-K built... If i had the resources availible to me i would (could) have easily copied that. It would'nt be hard... by looking at the pics looks like a very common build. I built my own modern enduro in 2001.. Ran what was the Mid- States Series in 2002 and won the Yamaha Can class championship. It was only the second best kart i ever drove compared to the quicksilver i had. I'm not that computer literate or i would download the artical to you.... sorry... you can't have the mag!!!!
