Good for doing donuts I guess.

But just because you can do something doesn't necessarily mean you should.
Lots of guys have done bike engines on karts but there actually is a limit to how much power you can use if you want to get around a track quickly. It's really about power to weight ratios and having a balanced package. Having a bunch of power without a class to run with or a plan of what you're doing with it is just silly in my book but that's just what I think, I like racing - not showing off to my co-workers.
There were some guys running 450 bike engines with Benn Herr in Phoenix but I don't think they were any faster than the stock Honda 125's.

It's a pretty large engine for a kart and if you just want maximum HP probably the best way to go is with an Axiro. It'll probably end up costing less in the long run.

Much smaller package and way more power than almost anyone can use. The only place they're really racing them I know of is UAS

So, the short answer is yes it has been done. If you already have the motor, and the kart, and a fab shop, and lots of spare time, and money then go for it.... The only places to race are going to be dirt oval unlimited racing.

Or road race courses that run pursuit style races like they did in Phoenix. Most sprint tracks will probably send you away.
Good luck and make sure you have the brakes to stop if you do build it

The 450 twin cam, 4 valve, 4 strokes seem to be taking over the UAS right now. The BRC-150 is very hard to beat though.
With the Moto-X 450's, they are removing the gearbox to save weight. They have an excellent power to weight ratio. Some of the guys in the UAS will likely steer you in the right direction for mounts, gears, etc to help you.
The Axiro Wankel is a very nice package with a very broad torque curve making it easy to drive.
At any rate, do what you enjoy. If it's fun, go for it. _________________ Began kart racing 1959. Made many friends along the way. |

| Good run Paul, nice to see the progress you've made!! It's great to hear the tires break loose coming off the corner and the left front just hanging there and Brody and his direct drive 2 smoker hitting 18,000 rpm. |
