| CAN ANYONE TELL ME WHAT SYSTEM IS THE BEST. NORMAL CARB OR RUNNING A PUMP AROUND SYSTEM. WHAT IS THE ADVANTAGE OF THE PUMP AROUND SYSTEM AND IS IT EASY TO TUNE WITH THIS SYSTEM? |

And the dead of winter debate continues.
Its just cleaner. Pump around paid for itself in saved fuel. _________________ #8 CRG JWR Maxter

Gary
Give me a call on monday after 9am, I give you the ups and downs of the different systems. We are the shop that does most of the pump around conversions for most of the big engine builders, we have done hundreds of them in the last 4 years.

Some day it will sink in....A pump around is a bandaid to correct a fuel pump problem that can be corrected with a plastic Tee and a piece of fuel line.
But I'm sure no one really cares as long as the PA costs more money and adds more fuel line and fittings. _________________ Tom Barth

Pumparound solves 2 problems.
First the pintle valve was designed for gravity feed pressure; pump pressure is significantly higher, enough that it unseats the needle and overfills the bowl. In many cases a simple T-fitting to bleed off pressure is enough to correct it.
The second problem with some carbs is the floats may catch on the bowls with lateral G-forces. Not a problem on a bike. If this happens the float may stick open or closed just long enough to be a problem.
Ideally the Dell'Orto carb would have been selected as it doesn't suffer from either problem. _________________ John Denman

John,
I have installed a tee and routed pump lines to bypass excess fuel and engine runs fine. I don't see any reason for floats to hang up. But yes, use the Dellorto by all means. _________________ Tom Barth

another route is the gravity feed system. Track magic used to make a verson of it and Sweedtech currently still does. I use the gfs on a cr125 and am really impressed with the system, it pulls smooth and never floods the carb during long hard cornering... at 400 bucks its not cheap but is recommended if you can afford it.

also if you plan to race check to make sure the system is legal for your class...

Pump-around is legal in SKUSA spec honda and I believe it always has been. I've been running it for 5 or 6 years. _________________ Randy

For those of you who have not been in the sport long, high lateral G forces were a problem at one major track. After 4 fast right hand corners the Mikuni carb would be completely out of fuel so that when the driver came out of the left hand hairpin, the motor fell flat on its face. The track was Norman, OK and the race that was held there was the SKUSA PMT final. The pump around completely fixed the problem. Even those engines that "never" had a problem had a problem at Norman.
I have always run the pump around as it makes jetting very consistent for all tracks under all conditions. By the way, you don't need to spend $400 to get the conversion done, Steve can convert your carb for a fraction of that. _________________ Doug |

we should call it the Okie dry pump syndrome set up....then there wouldnt be a debate about the pump around.
now all tom has to do to keep this going is tell us how he never had a problem at oklahoma when we ran clockwise.
gary plz do a search and you will never find the answer,,,because most all the systems work...it depends on your needs, your budget and mostly who will be helping you jet because that person may prefer one over the other.
if you are new here,,,,welcome! but the question you asked might as well have been on politics or religion....sorry buddy.
key point: if you kart is working...dont mess with whatever system is on it! |

Oscar,
I could run at any track without the PA and have no problems. Wouldn't put up with it. Just need to plumb it correctly. _________________ Tom Barth
