Send Bernie a check with a lot of zeros on it and I'm sure something could happen! Laughing

Dont mean to hijack this thread, but speaking of texas, anyone heard about this race?

http://www.lonestargrandprix.us/

Its essentially a road race, its huge and looks like loads of fun.

Actually it is like a hybrid track, big for a sprint, small for a road race.
Probably too small for a superkart. 1.4 miles +-

4or5 of us will be coming from MN with KZs, we are hoping for a couple more to join in from this way and maybe a few from from the Chicago area too.
Gonna be a heck of a race. Not sure how non-shifters will do with such long straights and what seems like really tight infield though.
There isn't a class for SuperKarts for this one:(

Track is 1.4mi from my rough estimation too..

There is an event page on FaceBook: http://www.facebook.com/event.php?eid=133014916796108

Not yet! There is still controversy.

Nothing like a bit of controversy.

Just announced this is dead. Oh well, maybe they can turn it into a motocross track. Never get your hopes up when you are talking about F-1

hello all

i did talk to the main person at LOAN STAR GP. i was told the race fee for 250 superkarts would be $30,000.00 for the first 20 entries and $500.00 per entry after that. i ask why such a high entry fee and i was told they would have to make special arrengments for 250 superkart and they are not willing to do that unless the fee above is paid.

I DO HOPE THEY CHANGE THEIR MIND and lower the entry fee so superkarts could attend.

regards

firouz

My understanding is that he failed to provide a letter of credit. Since all the parties involved seem bent on obfuscating what happened, it's hard to tell wether or not Full Throttle Production's lack of progress caused Austin to not issue financial backing from their special events funding or the other way around. I'm not sure what the contractor can do better than FTP, as, if people don't want to fund an F1 race put on by one group, why would they want to fund another group that has no connection to the sport?

Either way, the new terms of the special events funding getting released seem counter-intuitive. The funds are there to be "A tool for recruiting large events to the state," but, at the same time, "The state of Texas will not be paying any funds in advance of the event." Such are the contrary words of the state comptroller. I wonder if the Super Bowl was given such scrutiny when they were awarded funds through the same channels.

Quite frankly, I'm not holding my breath for Jersey either, as the amount of work to convert the selected circuit into something suitable for F1. Did it occur to anyone else from that youtube footage that the track would cut off a route for ambulance traffic? Minor things like that might throw a wrench into the gears. I have a feeling that the next F1 race I attend will be in Canada.

sigh.
