At seven hours into his journey, Trey has recorded 285 laps. With 873 needed to break the record, he is at about the 1/3 mark in laps with 3/10 of the time completed.

Be sure to follow the progress of Trey Shannon has he attempts to break the 24 hour record distance in a kart at the following feeds:

Wow! Congratulations! You just drove from LA to San Francisco and back to LA and then another 37 miles in a kart. You're whole body must be numb. Incredible feat.

Thank you to everyone that followed the world record attempt here and on Facebook and for the enthusiasm and encouragement you provided us.

We're grateful to Trey for contacting us to be involved with this extraordinary event. We're at our best when we're pushing ourselves to new limits.

I have to thank our amazing crew: Dave Creech (who's headlight solution saved the whole attempt when the temp lights went out at the end of the straightaway), John Vottero, Mike Unger, Mark Nevill (who sadly couldn't be trackside as he was awaiting the arrival of his first child - we've asked him to think of the team and race schedule next time he's in the midst of a romantic interlude that may result in conflicts), Julie Conlin and Tracy Conlin (who, in addition to varied other duties, made a dash across rush hour Indy to ensure we had every potential problem covered).

As you may expect, the credit for the reliability of the kart and the economy of the pit stops were largely due to preparation and planning and all the people above were involved in that. There is over 60 collective years of karting experience among those people.

MRP Motorsport gave us an excellent package. The Birel was rock solid and the Rotax sounded the same at the end of the 24 hours as it did at the beginning. Many thanks to MRP's Marc Miller who sent us every imaginable spare we could possibly need. But in the end, all we used out of the huge box was a clutch drum/drive gear and 3 chains. Other than that, all we did was change the main battery every 6 hours and the Rotax never missed a beat.

And a shout out goes to Motorama Kart Parts who lent us a clutch puller in case we needed to replace the clutch. Gladly we didn't.

After just a couple minor issues at the very beginning of the run, everything went like clockwork. With each completed lap and on each pit stop I, as the crew chief, kept waiting for the other shoe to drop. But it didn't and the credit for that goes to everyone mentioned above.

I want to thank everyone who followed along with this thread and on our various Facebook pages. The support we have received from within the karting community has been tremendous, and really helped to provide the motivation we needed to keep pushing.

I also really need to thank Jim Conlin and everybody at Adrenaline Fix Karting who helped keep that kart moving. Overnight the weather turned pretty nasty, and they kept at it. They all stayed out in the pooring rain to help keep me focused and keep me going out on track. Their preparation was absolutely spot on. Every problem that could have come along, they had it covered. As Jim said, that headlight that Dave rigged up really saved us when the set of lights we had set up at the end of the long pond straight went out.

On that note, I would really like to give a huge thank you to Mike Adams and his staff at New Castle Motorsports Park, especially Cody Doyle. Mike and Cody stayed with us the whole 24 hours! When one of the light towers went out, Mike and Cody worked their tails off to get some scaffolding set up with some makeshift lights for us....in the pooring rain. Absolutely awesome support we got from everybody at the track!

There are just so many other people I need to thank that really came together to make this happen. Another huge thanks to my wife, parents and brother, and everybody else who was there all 24 hours. Their support was truly amazing. My trainer, Tim Park, even drove all the way out from Silver Spring, MD and stayed up all night to keep me streched out and focused. Thanks also to Race Fan Radio and David Lee Pohto for covering the attempt live. Charlie Brown and David Lee both stayed the entire 24 hours and their support and enthusiasm never wavered.

Also a big thank you to all of my sponsors. MRP gave us a dynomite package with the Rotax/Birel. Danny Boy ran just as strong in the 24th hour as it did in the first. Hoosier provided us with simply amazing tires. Fourteen hours of dry running and we only used one set! AiM Sports, Ribtect, Infinit Nutrition, Gold's Gym Silver Spring, PitFit, K1 RaceGear, VP Racing Fuels, RoboPong, Zamp Helmets, Polar USA, and Ogden USA were all vital in making this World Record possible.

This has been an absolutely amazing experience, and I really just can't thank everybody enough!

On behalf of MRP Motorsport (Birel and Speed Schools) - we want to thank Trey for his preparation, focus and dedication.

He can thank all the people he wants - but the real thanks should go to him for letting us all be a part of this - as he would have accomplished his goal with or without us! Smile

Very proud of you Trey and we are glad we could give you the tools you needed to accomplish this goal.

If you guys haven't done this yet - please make sure you go to Trey's donation page. The purpose of this attempt was to raise funds and awareness - and the funds are important!

DONATE! http://www.kart24hour.org/Site/Donations.html
