Just got my son into karting. We are running a Chonda / Clone on a full-sized chassis and would love to get him some extra seat time via Autocross. We are in San Antonio...is there a class for him?

Yes, depending on his age and how many, if any, modifications there are on the motor. If he's 8-11, he would be in FJB (JB in 2012). If he's 12-15, he would be in FJA (JA in 2012). The stock clone is OK in FJB for regional competitions with ONLY the governor removed or defeated. It could also be used in FJA, but obviously it would be quite slow compared to other FJA motors.

But the first real hurdle is determining if the local SCCA region is approved to run junior karts. Maybe someone from TX will weigh in here.

If you do a bit of drilling with google search SCCA San Antonio you should be able find a region and then drill into finding a contact such as the Regional Executive. They will know if they have access to Junior kart Steward. That person will also be able to point you to the schedule which I would think goes year round that far south. Very Happy

Alamo Region
Regional Executive James Kimbrough
jmkimbrough@peoplepc.com" Phone: (210) 481-7325

Loooks like it would be the Alamo Region, part of Southwest division.

Thanks, did that, but its a little confusing. I found this site, the SASCA http://www.sasca.org/forum/index.php?PHPSESSID=9ad3b2e3a866d2725bad6581d5b7dccc;www which seems to be the place, but didn't see Junior stuff there. Will just call them.

However, if anyone does have more info - would appreciate it.

Thanks in advance...

Todd,

I am a former President of SASCA. SASCA is a non-SCCA affiliated autocross club, and therefore has a little more flexibility on what classes can be run. Try a post on the forum there, people in the club are very friendly and eager to help out. I don't recall running FJs when I was active (2000-2008), but I did run my shifter. The link you found with results is from an event run by the Houston SCCA club; I know they definitely run FJs there. Their website is http://www.houscca.com/ You can also try the Austin club, SPOKES at http://spokes.org/
