In case anyone cares, We are now pulling 52+ HP from our modified GX-390 Hondas. That includes a nice raised port billet head with a Super BN-38mm carb. Billet roller rockers, billet 3 pound flywheel, billet adjustable cam, dual valve springs, Billet "H" beam rod that is .500" longer than stock. The Forged Arias piston that comes with the rod is 35% lighter than the stock piston. The old balance shaft is no longer necessary. 52+ hp on clean Alcohol. With 25% to 40% nitro, the HP goes to the moon. But, reliabilty is shortened. So far, these engines are proving to be very fast and competitive where ever we have taken them.
Just an FYI. Thanks,

With all the billet stuff and the most HP we can build with one of these, it would have to run about $3500. At that, you really should get a full season of racing from it before needing a rebuild.

Mike, The sorry truth is nobody cares till someone wins a major race with one. Then everybody else will throw tantrums to protest it. Can furnish piles of reference if needed........LOL

George, I for certain believe you. We built a chassis just for TaG racing in Phoenix. We did this using American materials, American sizes ( no metric ), and ran the local races in Phoenix. We outran every kart there and they were all European chassis that cost substantially more than our's.
Still, even after trouncing on them, nobody cared.
Anyone from Phoenix reading this. The chassis I am speaking of was driven by Chris Rhein. It had the Heim joint front end like the dirt oval karts have. Oh well... Live and learn. |

Hey Mike,
I've got a good fabricator here who's anxious to build more Time Machine chassis so they might not have heard the last of it yet....
The GX390 would be cool on it but in keeping with the All American theme I think it'll have to be a 305 or a pair of open Animals

Just peekin' in on this old thread. Curious about two things:
1) This Time Machine chassis sounds interesting! Any further actions happening with it?
2) Seems like a nice reliable ~30hp 4-stroke motor would be v. cool. I wonder if B&S would do a WF version of a 390cc engine. Would this have to be led by the oval racers in order to get the numbers up?

The Time Machine project is moving forward, I just picked up one of Mike's original winning chassis from Dan Huff in Ohio and will be building a new jig this spring.
As for 30hp Briggs look at the 305 (Intek Model 20). They can be built very reliable for less than a TaG. Also you could use 2 World Formulas for a pretty much bolt on straight from the box type of application that would get you close to 30hp on gas.

I will try to post a nice photo of the bare frame and spindles. We tested until we were blue in the face. It took a bunch of testing and reworking to obtain the final results. Everyone who drove it, loved it.
