It's a tough fact of life that there are people that cut their losses by pushing their problems onto others.
I too got a motor a while back from said 'vendor' that wasn't as described - fortunately I'd already planned to tear it down and refresh the wear parts but as soon as I got the right cover off, I found the crank seal blown out and flopping around and found lots of other problems too as I kept digging. "great shape and runs fine" indeed...would have taken five minutes to get the seal back in place where the motor *would* run, but nope!
Be careful of what seems like a good deal.
************
One other note - there's two sounds a transmission should make with each gear change. First is the ratchet pawl clicking - second is the gears making contact when they stop moving on the shaft. There's also a small clack as the dogs make contact in the middle of the process. Sorry to hear of your troubles Juan and hope that we get it resolved reasonably well. |

Thank you Chris |

Jim, To be fair this is the whole story.
I bought this engine with pwk, rce pipe, and silencer for (-$2125) from him, I went to the regional mid ohio and while mounting sprokets noah found out that it wasn't turning fine. So I lost my first race (-$$).
Then instead of loosing the whole weekend plus 14 hr of round trip I rented a engine for the remaining 3 races. (-$$$$)
I emailed Chris and told him the situation and he kindly returned $600 same day of Mid ohio.
After digging more into this motor, we found that it needed a new cilinder, piston, crankshaft, forks etc bringing the bill to (-$1300).
After all this I come to wka national at mid ohio and during practice I found that engine does not go into 5th gear. Ending up in loosing again the first race -($$$) and using another engine (-$$$$$) (everybody knows this part of the story).
And the money keeps going out since the engine is still not running. (-$$$$$$)
Just do the math. I could have bought a new top quality engine from a recognized builder with pipe and silencer for that money. Lesson learned.
I did email Chris back and told him what happened and his response was:
"Juan, I'm sorry that that motor is giving you so many problems. I bought that engine from a listing on the Colorado karter, I did not know him and he was not a regular around the colorado kart scene. Again it seemed like a good deal at the time and I bought that motor as a spare and never had it on the track.
I really wished I had more to help you out with it but really don't know what to say, other than I hope you can get the gremlins worked out and I sold you what I thought was a solid motor for a good price.
Again I wish you the best. Sorry I can't be more help. "
Then I went to ebay just to find out that dispute time frame was only 45 days.
Apparently I am not the only one being screw up by this guy. I got some PM from somebody with a similar experience with Chris. _________________ http://www.goherbalife.com/roanoke

First off, after you rented a motor and the guy reimbursed you for it, that's straight on the up and up.
I would be pissed at the guy that went through the motor and charged you $1300 and gave you back a motor that doesn't shift.
And, you had the motor over 45 days and never pulled the head to look at the cylinder?
I'm sorry you think you got burned, but who buys a motor off ebay and pops it on a kart and goes racing???
BTW, are you sure it's a 6 speed and not a 98 or later 5 speed? and check to make sure they're not 5 speed forks...

Chris the guy claimed motor was just rebuilded to stock honda SKUSA specs.

Yes we did find out after race weekend.

That sucks Juan. If its any consolation, it can only get better right? At this stage I think your best bet might be to get the CR125 kit from Honda and build a nice brand new one...Part out the motor you have have and sell whatever you can to recoup the cost of the new kit.
If you paid via CC or DC you may still have recourse with your card vendor. _________________ GPI Racing | WildKart | Maxter | Hoosier

My consolation is that I learned so much about cr125s in the last 15 days than in the 1.5 years in karting. I know there is so much to learn.

Again, if you bought a motor from a "guy" and believed him, sorry dude but that's your fault...
And he gave you the cost of your rental back, at that point I would have shipped it to a reputable kart shop and have them go through it.
You wasted your money twice....
Sorry buddy, I don't mean to bust your chops but this post is a perfect example of what NOT to do....

Chris,
He did give it to me after the mid-ohio weekend. The $600 he refunded was not toward the cost of the rental. I only charged Juan $100 to rent my engine for the whole weekend... 95% of it was in very heavy rain I might add.
He needed a crank as the old one was not a 99 and was not straight, the cylinder was a 94 and re-plated. The head was severely damaged on the gasket surface, needed a new piston kit, seals, bearings, output shaft bearing was NFG, forks, one fork shaft, a few gears, and all the tranny snap rings, plus labor, minus a discount on all parts came to around $1300. As soon as he came to me at midohio in june saying it was acting up, I pulled it apart, found nothing. Didnt believe him at first since nothing looked wrong. Had his story confirmed and had 6 other reputable engine guys come over and confirm everything was in the right place and had a few people watch me re-assemble the motor to confirm I wasnt doing anything wrong or missing anything. All is well. Fired it up, and it did the same thing again.
All 6 guys that looked at the motor/tranny at the track kept asking what was it doing because everything they saw agreed with me in that there was nothing wrong with it, with no damaged parts. Had each and every one of us stumped.
Juan is trying a completely different transmission this go around to see if its indeed a tranny shaft issue or a case alignment issue.
I feel really bad for him that it didnt work right at MO. I did everything I could. If I wouldnt of been there to actually witness what it was doing, I wouldnt of believed anything was wrong from just tearing it down afterwards.
****The mainshaft with the wider gear is from a 5-spd tranny. I have a few of those here myself. _________________ Noah Stark
