Does anybody know if the crank case breather ( Briggs World Formula part# 555688 ) will improve the performance of my engine? This seems to me that it would only help if you added something to the oil.

I really don't think the intent or design of the breather is to be a performance enhancer. What it does in equalize the pressure between the bottom and top ends of the engine. Our WF is about 6 years old now, and it was putting out a bit too much oil through the valve-cover vent. The breather kit cured that instantly.... we have essentially zero blow-by coming out now.
Did it make the motor faster? Dunno. It certainly did not hurt it...

The breather system is designed to improve oil control. As far as a hp improvement I doubt you'll see anything.
I don't know your experience but I do know that I've seen box stock WF engines beat blueprinted WF engines. The bp'ed engine was in my kart , the out of the box stocker was in another of my karts which was driven by a number of different drivers. The ones with more and better experience than me were way fast with the stocker. What I'm trying to tell you is to concentrate on driving technique, hp ain't all it's cracked up to be! It really matters when all of the engines are so equal.

| Thanks for the answers guys. I saw the breathers on a few WF's at the track & was wondering if they we're some kind of performance enhansers. |

Put one on if you race alot of tight corners. Was first used for lefty ovals to get the oil back to the crank case faster.  |

| It just occurred to me to ask if this helps on ovals. I blew a lot of oil out when I ran my last oval race. |

Check the rules for oval kart racing. I know the by-pass kit is legal on Ltd. Mod Animals , I'm pretty sure they are NOT LEGAL on stock class Animals.

All my modified motors and some of the stockers have the hole between the lifters drilled out. This lets the oil drain back and effectively eliminates the problem. Why this is illegal for stock classes baffles me, there's no performance advantage and you have far fewer rod bearing issues.
And no, the breather kit won't give you any more horsepower. Spend the money on tires and practice if you don't need it....
