What kind of turn out does SCK have for 80 shifter at their long track races? I've been racing NCK this year, but am considering buying a new kart and running both series next year.
Thanks,
John |

Hey John,
My buddy races 80's and I can tell you there must have been 15 or so at the last North-South SKUSA, SCK shootout. I know that doesn't answer your question directly, but once you've been on the street course in a shifter, you'll be back, it's a blast!
Hey Tom, if I can get freed up, I'll see you on Sunday.

John,
I've been asking the same question(s)... And, from what I have heard, there are not very many 80cc shifters that participate in SCK.
A friend of mine ran his 80cc shifter, at the 'Streets of Willow' (end of last year or beginning of this year) and said that there were only three 80cc shifters entered, compared with at least twenty-five 125cc
shifters... They ran the 80cc and 125cc shifters together, in the same heat.
I just found out that SCK does not have a 'spec' tire class, for the 80cc shifters... I really don't know, but I wonder if this is one reason for low participation. The reason that I mention this is... This past Saturday, at NCK - Thunderhill, we only had three 'Formula 80' entries (sticky tires), compared with at least a dozen 'NCK 80cc Sprint' entries (YDS tires)???

I will check with Julie's registration sheets before giving actual numbers. So far SCK has left things pretty much up to the racers (we have had NO input as to how they would like the class run though) so anyone can come out and have fun. We have one class that is stated as "any IKF legal sprinter" so just anyone can have track time, or if someone wants to cross over another class that RR doesn't offer. Also when we travel it gives "locals" and their club class a place on our agenda.
Seriously, if there are people who want to race with SCK and don't because of the structure of the class, tell us!!! Also if you bring 5 or more we will make you a class, if you do it for a year, it's an offical SCK class for year end stuff and drivers goodies at the banquet.
Hope to hear from LOTS of you! Deb K |

| Still haven't heard anything about Yamaha Limited Light running in SCK. Does it exist or is this one of those classes that have 1 or 2 guys in it? |

Ok-some numbers, SCK has only 2 running for year end in the 80 class. Some days we get more (usually at Streets).
Yes we have Yamaha Limited Lt, and also the Classic Limited light (for the the rest of this year at least)We only have 1 running for year end in Yam Ltd Lght (usually get 3-5 on race day) And 2 in the classic. I realized something, SCK is "hefty" the bigger classes are the Heavy's, laydown and sit-up! Deb K (PS We have had more people interested since the June shoot-out to come out with their 80's so not sure how many will show this Sat. Next Streets after Sunday will be the first weekend in Dec.) |

| Yes, we still do the first timers fee. Also you do not have to join SCK the first time either, but being an IKF sanctioned race, you do have to join it. SCK also has an associates membership (no year end stuff but you get newsletters, etc.) Dear US requires that 90 some odd percent of income is from memberships! So all not for profit clubs have to do that! But SCK worked figures and can slide with one time and we also came up with the 1/2 fee for those who wanted to "pick" their tracks and not run all the time. Email Julie (who does registration)at SCKKARTS@aol.com Debbie K (I think first timers is $30 |

John,
SCK runs a pretty good show down there.
I am one of the guys that Mitch was talking about that went to race the streets in Jan. It was a bummer that their was only three 80 karts there but it was pretty good racing.
Since we went down there I have been telling everyone who would listen that the streets is probably the most fun track I have driven. It is the best combonatoin of road and sprint track. It was definatly cool enough for the seven hour drive.
I am trying to organize a group of people (Mitch is one of them) to go down to the race in December. Feel free to contact me with any quistions about going in Dec.

PS. The track is more then worthy of a Grand National event.
My only concern is the hear in the summer. I wounder if September would be doable.

The bottom line is that an 80 just doesn't have enough poop to be interesting in a sit-up configuration on a long track. Streets is more of a big sprint - and an 80 would likely be pretty fun.
I think an interesting home for 80cc shifters would be in a laydown class with rock hard tires. You could get some interesting top speeds which would keep the long tracks more interesting and the gearbox would help you launch from the tight stuff. The hard rubber would mean you'd actually have to drive the thing instead of just turning the wheel.
I think Andy Szyszkowsky used to run an 80cc laydown. You out there, Andy?
