I have a little too much time on my hands this weekend and have been thinking about the following question.....
I'm currently racing Yamaha Limited lite with an open pipe at 330 lbs. and have been looking at getting into an 80 for next year (I know it's the middle of summer, but the series I'm racing only has 3 races left). After thinking, looking, and being the kind of guy that I am, I have to ask the question: Would it be a dumb move to skip the 80 route and go straight to a 125? Would it be too much kart? Also, what kind of changes are made to 125's between road tracks and sprint tracks? It takes quite a bit of work to get things changed around with my KT. I've thought that if I went this route I could road race and run the Willow Springs kart track so I could get in a little more track time.
Opinions please. |

come on.....somebody on this list must have made this same transition and has some thoughts on it. Someone out there can speak of the changes made to a 125 from road racing to sprint racing and vise-versa.
opinions are appreciated |

| hi John Although I have never raced a shifter but here on the east caost WKA The rules try to make it a crossover class were you don't change that much. From what I see all they do is add a nose cone I've seen 1 with a belt drive other than that the rest "I think" is the tuneup or engine. the sprinters is alot diiferent Im sure you know. alot of the ones I see are for road racing only. I was gonna try to race my sprinter at a road Races It just seemed like alot to change. Before sprinters didn't look like they changed much and you would see all the guys from the sprint tracks at the road corse's in My old WKA magazines the registration said something like 130 sprinters Max in just one class. any how theres usually alot of talk about RR shifters in this forum and they will know more. |

John, just skip the 80, buy yourself a 125 and prepare to race in the most competitive road racing class there is! The chassis adjustments between a sprint track and a long track like Willow Springs are minimal. Streets of Willow Springs, at 1.7 miles long, actually drives like a big sprint track.
The 125 will give you a lot more physical workout than the 100cc Yamaha---this I know because I made the transition 5 years ago. Fifteen minutes in a 125 shifter is like one hour in a 100cc laydown---except your ribs will hurt more unless you a) wear a rib protector and/or b) are in shape enough to withstand the sideloads.
Get the 125 and come race with us.
