Derek does not know any of this. I did not expose him. I cannot believe that Jim would let a little girl going on 14 be aware of all this! As for finding out new things, Jim as admitted to being the track fairy in the General karting, wka Man. Cup. page 6 Post. A must read. Don't bend over to pick up a wrench! LMAO

hey ray, it's richie, angus' dad. i saw you write that derek moved up to jrs. we did too! got tired of the turbo in minimax and angus is loving jrs. we'll be at ocala on friday and saturday. any chance you guys can make it up? angus would love to race with derek again. we moved up shortly after the GN's and have had about 5-6 races so far. he loves it so much that we quit the oval racing, but we are starting skip barber next month. now that angus is 12 (finally) they are letting us in.

With the new carb rules, it looks like rotax listened and reacted to the "Turbo Whine". Smile

Garry from MRP Motosports thinks the problem should be resolved with the new carburetor specs.

We ran the 12.5 with the new spec floats...Some may have been running the 8.5 but we didn't do enough testing with it in our short time in mini max.

Does the Jet-tech pro software give you the turbo you require when adjusting to its recommendations?

I am curious about this before I purchase as we just started out in Mini-max this past weekend and I heard the turbo a few times in Ocala with my DIY Jetting based on plug look.

I hear that people are still getting turbo even with the new rules 14200 RPM is not uncommon in MiniMax.

Yeah the turbo is still out there, guess that will encourge some to move to junior class. Confused

You get turbo with the 12.5 - for sure. The US rule changes did nothing to prevent turbo.

Aside from a redesigned coil, IMO the best way to eliminate (drastically reduce the chance of) turbo is to move to a spec jet. While I'm not a fan of spec'd jets (i actually enjoy the science/art of tuning) it creates the level playing field that Rotax is designed to be (for Minimax).

While the 2011 Minimax reg's for Canada have not yet been released, for 2010, 3 Minimax reg's pretty much eliminated the chance for turbo:

1. the 8.5 carb with 3.6 floats (one race I recall used the 12.5 but spec'd a 152 jet)
2. a spec jet - almost always a 155
3. 6.5 or 7.1 rear tires - these have a larger circumference than the 4.5's

Would throwing out the Spec Gear reduce or eliminate the effect of Turbo?

Doubt it Mark,

In fact, it would likely help you find it as you would have one more variable to play with.

But as gearing is always spec'd I can't say that we've tried.

Ok I painfully tredged through this post to see if any one saw the glaring line on the data from way back? They didn't.

Notice the "turbo"(thats so ridiculous) line at the very entry of the straight away. I figure since the curve matched for a while after that the data that early was thrown out.

But, on the hot curve there were more rpms through the corner and ultimatley shortly after started mathcing the lame curve. However, those additional rpms at the beginning probably jumped the egt up at the start meaning that at the end it was higher and pulled those last few revs.

Ihor, look at more data and try and see if this correlation exists. More rpms out of or in the corner relating to getting the turbo.

But, you have horrible scavenging at those types of r's with this pipe. Meaning having more "spent' gas hanging around, another by product of too much fuel without enough time to burn it.

I'm all for Spec jet and gear......

Right after spec axle, rear track and tire air pressure. Oh and how much tape you can run also. Rolling Eyes
