Glenn,
Of coarse it rocked for you. Your kart took off right away. You should have seen how far everyone was spread out down the first straight behind you. A rolling start is the only way to go. I`d rather go into the first turn with the whole pack within 100` of each other. Being spread out over a quarter mile going into the first turn isn`t close racing.
Pete

I had my bumper 1" from Borise, so it was close racing to me

We tried to get the Rotax guys back and race a couple of heats on Sunday at Streets. Unfortunately, most of the karts were rentals and had already been changed over for the next scheduled race elsewhere.

BUT--- we (SCK) will be back at Streets Aug. 26th. It's a one day event. Get a group together, email Julie or me with your preferences (30 min which is standing start or heats, rolling start) and we will get you on the schedule. We will be having a board meeting after Portland as mentioned, so maybe you might want to show up and work with us Pete(?). Debbie

Pete:
Unfortunately it's going to be a phone meeting as we couldn't get everyone together right after the nationals and before the August Streets race. There will be one in Sept though(date and time to be announced).

SCK is very used to running combined classes and the regulars have no problem. There were no probems mentioned about the ROtax's. Once in awhile someone in a slower class gets the bone headed idea to race with the faster kart that is trying to lap him/her and then must be taught "racing" manners. It also gets a little frustrating when you have the 125 gearboxes and the Yamaha's together on some tracks. The Yamahas do great in the junk (turns) and the 125's blow them away then on the straights. But they are used to racing together so when someone notices they are holding a different class up, they will usually wave them by. (Road Racers are sooooo low keyed at times!)

Yes two 20 minute heats with rolling starts is definitly possible And will most likely be what you get at Streets in August.

I leave tomorrow for Portland, so if you have any other questions, I won't be able to answer for about 10 days!

Deb

Sounds good Deb. Would you put us in with the 250`s? What is that class called(the one that Cory Fancy was in)?
I like the idea of two twenty minute heats. Besides 10 extra minutes of racing, if you have a problem in the first heat you can come back and be competitive in the second heat. It also fits the Rotax Max Challenge format better. The RMC requirs a pre-final and a final. You score points in each. The winner at Streets scored 55 points. Someone coming in 16th place at a sprint race or any race that has a Pre-final and final will score 56 points if he comes in 16th for both heats(20 for the pre-main and 36 for the main). I don`t know if they plan on running any RMC races with SCK next year(I hope they do), but if they do I think we would have to run two heats. I also think the race we ran at Streets should have counted as a pre-final and final and points awarded for both. The winner should have scored 89 points instead of 55.

Pete,

I agree with the rolling starts and warm up lap, standing starts with no engine warmup was tough. Although we only ran one race last event which comprised the entire event, I didn't think that it would be fair to award the winner 71 points (#of entries for the pre-final plus 55 for the win). ((Where did you come up with 89?)) We'll see what we do with next year. I am talking with a group or two for the Challenge schedule next year.

I also like the 2 heats format for road-racing. If we do run it that way, people have to understand that the first heat is the pre-final and the second heat would be counted as the final. At this next MAX Challenge event, I will pass out a questionaire which I will use to help me create next year's schedule. Would you like to run any road races as MAX Challenge events next year? Also, I am trying to plan a race or two this fall with other groups as "fun" races, obviously not Challenge events. Will you have a motor by late September to join us? Also, do you want to go to Sears Point to join NCK and Mike Moya at their event in November?

P.S. I also agree with your post regarding the MAX and Road Racing. It should be run as designed, as a situp sprint class, with CIK bodywork. We need Mike Moyas input about this. I think that the only consolations I would make would be allowing narrow rear tires and repositioning of the fuel pump to combat fuel starvation.
