In addition to one or two of the 4.2 million option classes that clubs run, it can run in the IKF 150 Open FKE II class.... not recommended though.

In the midwest I believe IRA has a Max class @ 370lbs and NCK has a local option class @ 355lbs, we had 6 in the last race, for more NCK Rotax class info and tech tips go to NetKarts.com Bye

Mike,
Welcome aboard.
Nice site you have. I checked it out when I got home from Streets.
Thanks for the advice you gave at the track. The needle clip setting was the problem.
Could you fill us in on Sears Point race that`s coming up?
Thanks,
Pete

In the Northwest, we have a local class "Sprint 150 Open" that would allow the Max (although it would not be overly competitive). I have been telling any Rotax Max driver who will listen to come out and try road race (running in Sprint 150 Open) - show me some numbers and I'll make sure next year they have their own class. So far I've seen exactly ZERO Rotax Max karts show up for a road race. This doesn't bode well for their own class

I'm trying.....

Pete: as a reminder, with SCK, bring 5 or more out and we will start a class for you. We will be having a board meeting coming up in August (I will let you know when. Bring how you want the class to run (heats or as a RR class of 30 minutes, basic rules (engine stuff, weights, etc.) Our season starts at the first of the year and we can make it a points class with SCK. Race for year end awards, driver goodies, etc. Currently with the IKF rules, once we establish it as a local option class, it gains popularity, it could become a national classas well to run for Duffy's (this system might be chaning somewhat, but the host clubs of Nationals get to pick their largest or "best" local option and make it a Duffy runner each year. SCK started Spec sprint this way. Our SCK 250 class is very popular and started this way also and ran for the Duffy at last year's nationals.

SCK has always been very opened about new ideas, classes and drivers!

Tim,
We had 16 entries run with SCK at Streets of Willow a couple of weeks ago. It was my first Road Race and I thoroughly enjoyed it. The only part that didn`t work is the standing start. It just doesn`t work for the Max`s. They are real touchy taking off out of the pits, especialy when they have the karts gridded facing uphill and you are 50lbs. over minimum weight. By the time mine took off and I reached the start/finish line, the leaders were coming back down the hill going into the left hander and any chance of catching them was gone because these things are so equal. I did catch and pass 5 or 6 guys to finish in 9th. We really need to have a warm-up lap to get the engines up to a safe tempature. After we pass the pits you could throw the green and let everybody go.
I think most of us want to Road Race again.
Pete

OK ,first of all,pre-enter and get all your extra pit passes ahead of time or you might spend an hour of practice time in registration.
Bring your big jets, 178 and up, especially for the first couple practices, the air density is usually off the scale{above}.Mount your fuel pump on the seat as close to the pulse fitting as possible with some leeway for gear changes, we wont hassle you about RMC regs on this one, it's more important to keep the carb full of gas than anything else in these type of ambient conditions.Gear ratio? Can't go wrong with a 15/65 or whereabouts @ approx. 360lbs, add teeth if need be for extra doughnuts. At present NCK has us starting behind the 80 shifters for 2 20 minute heats, at the July Thunderhill race one of the Max karts finished first overall against 22 80cc shifters even after spotting them a 30+ second head start because of the split and the inherent bad start of the Rotax. But I hope that in the future we will have our own race and rolling start when the entries justify it.And bring a new set of tires because the track is extremely cold in the AM.Also for NCK rules we tilt our seat back to a min. 50 degrees for obvious reasons, to go FASTER.Hope to see you and yer pals there Pete ,as this is the can't miss race for us No Cal folk, and there will be at least 30-40 80 shifters there for us to dissect our way thru.Go to www.norcal-karting/clubs/nck for contacts to get pre-entry forms and motel/track directions.Bye.Hey Andy, garner your legions for a trip up north ,a big showing will show the IKF board of the validity of the Max for a National RR class.Thx.

Mike,

What is the date of that race? I would love to bring the SoCal MAX brigade out to Sears Point. Let me know and I'll start working on it.

Pete,
You could run with the 250 classes at SCK events, they have a rolling start and run two 20 minute heats. It might sound like a problem but if you guys are running between the 80s and 125s in speed you would fit right in with a bunch of the bigger engined karts after a couple of laps. Fat old guys like me get tired and slow down and start enjoying the scenery. The guys that can go fast the whole time are real good at passing slower karts and when Eddie Lawson does it happens so fast you don't even notice!

Of course you'll want to talk to Debbie or Julie to find out the full story, but hey! The more, the merrier!

Debbie,
When and where is your meeting?
How did your regulars that ran in the same group as us, feel about us running with them? To me, it seemed to go alright. Someone in an earlier post mentioned two 20 minute heats with rolling starts. Is this a possability?

Oh, that standing start and a 30-minute race rocked - I definitely would want to do that they same way again.
