|
|
I did a search and found a post on 25 mm spindles. Its rather old and I was wondering if anyone can share any opinions on what they think of the difference between the two ? Thanks for any help ! I am trying to decide which ones to put on my new kart. _________________ Racing is a State of Mind ! ... A very nice state to be in ! |

The front end has to have some flexibility. If you have a very stiff chassis with a KT100 can motor I'd think twice. If you have a 30mm frame with no front torsion bar I'd go for 25mm.

Walt, I have a 28 mm chassis that is very flexible with a KT or a KPV. Think its worth it ? _________________ Racing is a State of Mind ! ... A very nice state to be in ! |

Can anyone explain the theory as to why they couldbe better than 17mm other than selling more parts? I cant see a 17mm spindle flexing any measurable amount nor a 25mm unless the hub is as far out as possible and even then i cant see the spindle bending past a degree or two max. |

Thats sort of why I posted this ! I am not sure either. I can get them on the new kart, so I figure if nothing else, they may be stronger ! _________________ Racing is a State of Mind ! ... A very nice state to be in ! |

| Ran both on our PCR. If the track had low grip the 17's were faster. If the track had medium + grip the 25's were faster. 17's flex 25's don't. |

I like them on the Tag and in the rain, as it allows the front to be both wider and stiffer. I don't really see the necessity in Yamaha or KPV. _________________ High Quality American Made kart stands. Available direct to you or through one of our many dealers.

Tell me how much each flexes under a 100-200 lb load.

Thanks Tim, thats more or less the answer i was looking for. I may order it with 25 and a spare set of 17's to run with the lower HP stuff _________________ Racing is a State of Mind ! ... A very nice state to be in ! |

Run the 25mm guys they won't bend as easy.
Just for fun we get the following deflections. I may be wrong but at least I'm drunk
17mm approx .004 in
25mm approx .0002 in
at a load of 200 lb and a distance of 7in from kinpin to center of wheel.

we got 17's on the X1 when we bought it. i ordered the 25's but they didn't come in until after our last race so we haven't had a chance to try them yet. but i've been told by several X1 drivers that you need the 25's in TaG.
EDIT-let me add that the times that we ran it with the 17's it had a very bad push the whole way through the turn. we couldn't tune it out no matter what we tried but we had older YKCs and not the greatest track conditions. _________________ Blaise Haynes
