This weekend is the annual running of the Rock Island Grand Prix. Through the streets of the Quad Cities area along the Mississippi River, karts will do battle in the 'World's Largest Street Race'. Fans from the area will line the fences as some of the best shifter, TaG, 2 & 4-cycle racers will race around the 8/10-mile circuit.
eKartingNews.com will be there providing EKN Live coverage - www.ekartingnews.com/live - presented by Shockwave Karting, which will stream the live play-by-play call of the on-track action by EKN's Rob Howden. Howden’s voice can be heard during the qualifying sessions on Saturday and through the opening ceremonies and main events on Sunday. EKN will also continue the website’s industry-leading ‘Trackside Live’ coverage, which features immediate top-10 session updates in the forums along with daily race reports and photos. _________________ David Cole

Hi folks,
The EKN staff is now en route to Rock Island for the year's event. As David pointed out, the weather is looking good and we expect hardcore racing in all 15 classes. There are a many drivers making their first trips to the Rock this weekend and I think we could see some darkhorses making bids for the King of the Streets crown this time around.
David and I look forward to seeing everyone later this evening! _________________ Rob Howden

I was reading the press release and saw Shawn Sharkey registered Merlin/Leopard. He recently picked up a P1 Engines Motori 7 for this event. We will see how it goes.
Best of luck to everyone running the event.

EKN Trackside Live: Friday Night 'Welcome Karters' Party
David Cole and I are now working away getting things set up to tape an edition of the Bridgestone Kart Report podcast, which we'll be posting to the site early next week. We're setting up in the Skellington Manor, which will play host to the 'Welcome Karters Party and Dinner' this evening. The party is set to go from 6:00 - 10:00 pm this evening, and we've got a couple of guest ready to sit down and talk about the RIGP, the upcoming races in the sport and some additional issues.
They have now shut down the streets surrounding the Rock Island Arts and Entertainment District and the trailers are starting to roll in. The track works will get started building the layout shortly. It's actually very windy and pretty chilly right now, although the weather forecast is still calling for sunny skies and temps in the 70s.
If you're checking out this thread from the area, we hope to see you at the party this evening! _________________ Rob Howden

Thanks for the shot, Dave. The 3G Kart Racing team looked good out there for the final round of King of the Streets qualifying. The field of 20 looks strong and I have to think that there will be about five drivers in the hunt for the win. Kyle Wiegand looks strong as ever, but he's got a bunch of guys chasing him! _________________ David Cole

EKN Trackside Live: Saturday Morning Practice Update
The morning sessions are coming to a close ahead of the 1:00 Central start of qualifying, which you will be able to hear live on EKN. Here are some notes from the morning sessions:
- as usual, only about half the drivers are running with their transponders
- In King of the Streets, Kyle Wiegand was the quickest in the second practice session with a 33.173-second lap. Reigning champ Jordan Musser was second with a 33.847, giving Wiegand a pretty nice little cushion. Connor Iseli, Nick Lucido and Lukas Johnson rounded out the early fast five
- In TaG Senior - the biggest class of the weekend with 30 - had Nevin Nelson topping the charts ahead of Shawn Sharkey. The remainder of the top-five featured Eric Schumacher, Bill McLaughlin and Morgan Nelson
- The second biggest class for this year's race is TaG Masters with 23 competitors, and a total of fourclasses have 20 or more entries (King of the Streets and 4-Cycle Int'l Clone as well).
- the weather is sunny and clear, with the temps in the mid-60s _________________ David Cole
