Anyone interested in restoring World Formula racing at IKF Region 7 races in 2011 ? I just began sprint kart racing in the fall of '09 with the intention of racing at IKF regional races. I'm hardcore 4 cycle by the way. The participation dropped off in the class in '09 and it was not included in the '10 series(s). I've heard many reasons for the drop off , travel expense , poor economy , racing politics ( I have no idea what that includes ), etc. I'm certainly interested in supporting the class. Travel wise , being from Az. , I would probably have the largest travel expense , don't care about politics , my" want" to race surpasses any negative influence from a sour economy ( how's this " hope and change " working out for you !!!). Anyone else feel the same way ? Lets get this thing rolling. I know there are sufficient numbers of WF's in the region.

Hi Bernie, Looking at the two clubs that run the WF here locally, I would make the proposal for a masters class. A true masters class, not by weight but by age. To me that is the largest part of the demographics of the people running this package. If region stays with the no Friday practice, a lot more of us working adults might be able to make the races.
As far as juniors I just don't see that many running to support a series.

The more I thought about it ,the idea of the Masters class made the most sense. I too was thinking of the makeup of WF population in the region. And yes I too believe in the true age only designation for a masters class. Maybe Swampwater will actually get a WF !!!!

Even if it's not R7, WF is the biggest class in Monterey. Fun, too, and pretty much everybody needs to go to work on Monday...just like me.

<shrug> I think that communication could be better...

When we started karting, in Junior 2, the fastest kids in Region 11, on both hard and soft tires, were kids that ran 4 cycle as Jr 1 and early in Jr 2. Something about knowing how to use the throttle and stay smooth made for fast drivers.

R11 stays very multi classed ( 2 cycle, shifter, 4 cycle) while R7 goes more and more straight 2-cycle - all a matter of what classes are supported by the racers.

Larry , I assume you are referring to Monterey,Ca. ? I'm slightly familiar with karting being conducted there but would like more info.I make an annual pilgrimage to Laguna Seca for the Sea Otter cycling event. Monterey is probably my favorite place on the planet. Wouldn't mind taking the kart up there once in awhile, especially to race WF.

Bernie - am guessing you were up here a few weeks back...I wanted to check that out but got busy cutting up trees.

Not that I want to take over the thread, since it's supposed to be about R7. But, since you asked - http://www.montereybaykarters.com/ Good club races with I guess 8-12 WFs, most of us are over 35.

Bernie,

WF is strong in Region 6. Not sure how long it took to get it up to speed and what it took. If you want to talk to some of the key WF in the region, they will be at the Nationals. Mike Schorn is probably the best one to talk to. Mike does tech seminars in Region 6 on WF and Animal engines.
