Be careful what you wish for, you may get it Shocked

NASCAR says the gloves are off - let the drivers handle it on the track.

Last Sunday was just the first - and NASCAR sent the message with a three race PROBATION for intentionally putting another car on it's roof while 100+ laps behind.

The NASCAR message was KEEP IT UP!!!!!!

Mark my words, this will end badly - quite possibly with a body bag.

And NASCAR asked for it.

Sorry, but in my book, intentionally wrecking another driver is NEVER acceptable. This is racing, not pro wrestling.

Tim

Didn't that same move make Earnhardt sr a hero Rolling Eyes

Sorry Jeff but it made Big E an A--Hole Rolling Eyes Eventually leading to his own demise Crying or Very sad

Earnhardt was smarter than that. He knew when and how to do it without drawing too much attention. He would have made it look like a racing incident. I disagree with Bob that this is what lead to his demise. His death was fluke. It was a fender bender gone bad, not a result of aggressive driving or trying to take someone out.

Earnhardt wrecked rusty W at I think Daytona at the start finish line and got him airbourn. Earnhardt died the way he drove putting cars into the wall.

Tom
Earnhardt was blocking for his kid and Mikey Waltrip and got clipped and his car nosed into the wall. Maybe his death was a fluke (like Edwards spinning Keslowski and getting airborne) but his actions were considered intentional. He was the man and I hated to see him go, but that's racin' as they say.

That's not what I saw. He was the lead car in 3 wide pack and he was pulling away. He got clipped by Sterling Marlin and drove into the wall. He was racing for 3rd it looked like to me.

Tom J : You have to look at Dale SR death as the making of his own. You have to look at the BIG PICTURE. Dale was considered the GOLDEN BOY of NASCAR Depending on senior Mgmt of NASCAR at the time . He was certainly allowed to get away with a lot of BS that would NOT be tolerated today.
Does anyone recall seeing Dales race seat in his car Question If you had you would have seen a seat tilted greatly to the left side. Questionable at the time but allowed by NASCAR. Many photo's had been taken of him driving where it looks almost like his head is up against the window netting. This was of his own choosing and to him was most comfortable on the high banked tracks . Daytona, Talledega , and Bristol come to mind.
Perhaps if the HANS device and Randy Lajoies seats were used /available this tragedy might not have happened . To me as I understand it this greatly contributed to his suffering a "BASIL SKULL" fracture leading to his death. Yet if you look real deep you will find that nothing like that is allowed to be published by NASCAR.
I am NOT saying there was any type of cover up at all ,just making the point that he was granted a lot of leeway over many issues. I do find it interesting that the car was hauled to Charlottes NASCAR R&D facility torn apart and then taken to a scrap iron plant and shredded into a million pieces .
So draw your own conclusions Wink

I saw Earnhardt Sr. take Terry Labonte out in Bristol to win a race and I know he spun people out for a position now and then but I don't remember him putting someone out when he was a hundred laps down in such an obvious manner.

I don't think the letting Edwards go scott free (no pun intended) sets a good precedent as far as tolerating bad driver behavior on the track. It is going to be a mess.

i hadn't heard that.

what i read was that now that the precedent is set, what's to stop a team owner from entering a young newbie and letting him take out the points leader? how will that be handled?

one thing i don't like is how after the chase starts the non-chasers are VERY cautious about racing around the chase guys. why should they be raced any differently? not to say that they should be intentionally hit but guys will give them 2 or 3 car lengths to avoid any issues.
