A plan for a US driver to progress in F1
I think they need to pick a few kids around 14 to 16 and keep them away from the Americian $$$ racing. Maybe even send them to Europe, or far east and groom them for F1. I think your only as good as who you compete against. However the race, tracks, conditions are so different in europe. They will also get to compete against the same people, and get the same track experience they will face in F1. Also I think the establish Americian driver are probily to old. We have had 2 good ones so far (they were different days then), but i dont think any of the drivers you named could cut it with the current F1. Not that givin time they couldn't learn, I just couldn't see them jumping in a 2010 car and winning. UNLESS the were really good at PS2/3 etc.
Its a bit like mens soccer in the US. It the same game as the rest of the world, You may have the ability, you may have the heart: But to become really good you need to go play In S America or Europe.
James

Problem #1: 14/15yrs is already too late. Maybe 4/5 yrs old?
Probem #2: away from American money? You think you spend less in Europe and making into F1 is cheap?

Alex is correct, The 14 to 16 year old would need to be driving sprint karts or similar since they were 5, and have proven to have the ability

Skip barber kind of does that. They provide a decent lader system for a pretty reasonable cost and coaching is included. If you say your a great driver but cant afford the season then prove that and win the scholarship. These guys have made it a long way by winning the shootout and I wont be surprized to see them up there in a couple of years.

Getting young Americans to F1 lies with their parents taking them to Europe early and often. That's where the talent can be measured and recognized. Here in the US they are invisable. Oh, then dad/mon will need access to lots of cash in the form of personal relationships and/or corporate backing.

It's similar in a way to pro surfing. You must go the North Shore of Ohahu in the winter. That's where the the waves, talent and the industry is. If you aren't there, you'll just be another guy who surfs. The difference here is, once you're there, it's 100% talent based.

I agree they need to go to europe but the flip side to that is if they do then no one in America knows who they are then when they make it to F1 no one cares.
