After Saturday's event, I'd say someone made a very good judgement call with Piquet going to trucks, where he should be right at home, and Danica to Nationwide.
If the Cup guys are nervous about her being there, maybe they shouldn't run what's supposed to be a feeder series. No, not maybe, definitely, and not just because of Danica's presence.

I bet this ARCA race had the largest viewing audience of any ARCA race.

Shame ARCA killed it's Midget series. Would've been fun to see her in a midget....

Good job by Danica. Though I was skeptical prior to seeing her 1st IRL race, I became a convert, and lest we forget there are DOZENS of male also-rans that we rarely rip for being so slow. Perhaps a Hen in the Roost is not a bad thing -- it keeps them bringing their A-game...

While reflecting back on the ARCA race ,It appears to me that the big accident that Leilani and Milka were involved in seemed to be real late hits possibly caused by slowness of their spotters or did I miss something else?

Speaking of spotters, Danica's spotter seemed to be doing a great job of letting her know where everyone was around her.

I was thinking the same thing Bob. Why the heck didnt they slow down or even stop, they had plenty of time. It was actually a bit comical.

Tip of the hat to Carmichael, the guy had some great recoveries. Brought it home in 7th and in one piece.

Jimmy : As to Danica driving in the nationwide race ,I don't recall in the ARCA race that she did a lot of BUMP drafting. Trying to keep this civilized but it will be interesting to see how she handles it while taking several hits in the KEESTER Laughing

It's hard to say since there was no good angle. It's hard to say what the deal was but it looked like Leilani was slowing and a car zipped by her on the outside and wrecked.

From my personal past viewing experience. Half that field has no place at that caliber track. Year after year I watch cars pile into each other in horrific accidents due to poor judgement by the drivers and or spotters. That incident where cars were stopped and people were still pile into the stopped pile is definitely comical. but downright dangerous.
You should have seen last year. Cars were stopped after a wreck for over 15 seconds, cars a turn away hit merely at full speed...

I would not enter an ARCA race at a SuperSpeedway with the fields they have now.

Mike G : You raise some very valid points . Lets say you have a 30 car ARCA field on a superspeedway Maybe 10 are veterans of racing enough to back off when necessary ,the other 20 until they have a big wreck just do not have a clue. in most cases what to do . Very little ROOKIE orientation and just where are you suppose to get the experience? From a learning perspective Talledega is a better track to learn on as opposed to Daytona. More forgiving and wider with less bumps. In some instances you can make a mistake at Talledega and get away with it ,while the same mistake will bite you in the ASS at daytona.. For the pst 10 years I have been trying to get them to implement a light to go on in the car when the track a goes yellow the light automatically comes on in the car.

Written as Op/Ed -

Looking at the Daytona ARCA driver lineup, only a handful of said drivers have Super Speedway experience that is what most would call, significant. When the Super Speedway racing career opportunity arises, you have to get your start (experience) somewhere at one of the Super Speedway’s. I’m not sure you can get Super Speedway experience any other way than racing in a Super Speedway race.

Yet, to say that half, part, or rest of drivers as a whole … do not have the racing experience that accommodates them to race in the ARCA series, no matter the track, is being very shortsighted and judgmental in my opinion. Almost to the point of being hypocritical or having a better than the next driver attitude. But then again, maybe I’m misinterpreting the point trying to be conveyed to the masses. Duly noting; this topic was beaten to death last week on other forums and blog sites.

What advice would you have for Danica Patrick in her first ARCA race? "I don’t know. I think -- have fun. My first ARCA race at Talladega is still one of the ones I remember the most for how crazy it was. You need to wear a helmet if you watch it from the stands. That’s not an original quote. I’ve got to say that I think I got that one from Tom Busch, Kyle Busch’s dad. So, I got to give credit where it is due."

What makes the ARCA races so crazy? "Less experienced drivers. You can’t say anything bad about it. It is what it is. You have to have a series at one point that is like that. That’s just how it is -- it’s part of the stepping ladder. I’m not going to say they do a bad job running it. But, it is what it is. It’s a little bit crazy at times. Especially, for someone like Danica (Patrick) or myself, who has a lot of racing experience and comes in there and are running with a bunch of people who don’t (have experience). But, it’s entertaining."

While say a guy like 10th place finisher and second year ARCA driver Steve Arpin might not be a familiar name here, he is very familiar elsewhere … and his past racing experience does qualify him to race in ARCA. His racing experience is just as significant as Danica’s, Nelson Piquet’s, Dakoda Armstrong’s or Josh Richards. If not, ARCA President Ron Drager wouldn’t let any of them sign the waiver form.

And if I’m not mistaken … both Giessen and Speed got their upper level racing experience somewhere, in some stepping ladder series, with a bunch of more experienced guys and gals, with a host of others saying the exact same "Less experienced drivers" things about them.

As Scott so eloquently said ……… “It is what it is”

Rick
125k race car at 185mph
7k GOKART 75 mph

Big difference.

I never said that they didn't have the racing experience or any specifics WHY. I will enlighten..IMO ofcourse.
The handful of races Ive been too almost made my draw drop. 40% of the field was filled of people you would see at a Porche SCCA club event at Limerock (Yes old timers) (sorry I had to call ya out). Most accidents are poor judgment. and ofcourse the inexperience of the young guns. I am not knocking that. I personally first hand experienced the ladder to get Super Speedway approved for ARCA. JOKE.
If you can start the car up and be around a couple of cars..YOUR IN!

We see this in all different types of racing, national, local, regional. Explains why the last few laps of those races always yields good old green flag racing...Because the have not's are trying to get there junked cars in the hauler!

Then I misunderstood your comments below.

I’m not too sure how they could be taken, context wise, any differently.

Correct to some degrees, just not all. The surrounding factors are not equitable in my opinion. And I was not comparing the two. The context was/is …… "Less experienced drivers". Nothing more, nothing less.

If I offend you, your family, or Scott or Mike Speed with my examples in this thread … that was not my intention. They were/are examples and nothing more. Wink

Well then … if you thought that about the ARCA drivers, the comments from today’s NASCAR Nationwide Series race from Dayton should be really interesting. Shocked Laughing Wink
