Mistakes are being made. Who's watching?

Me too. I think the Camaros look like buses out there. Those quick change front rotors/calipers/pads assembly was pretty slick though, it took them about 30 seconds to change everything. Amazing they can run as long as they do.

I'm watching in between other things. Nothing like the Rolex 24 to kick off the racing season. Looks cold there.

Ran a 1 hour version of the Daytona 24 on rFactor yesterday with about 25+ other simracers. Running a race sim with replicas of the cars and the track before watching a race on TV expands the sensation about 100 times; kind of the same way a big screen HDTV expands the sensation of hearing it on a radio does...

I have watched about 8 hours of it so far . I do have to agree with lance ,changing a brake assembly in around 30 seconds is quite amazing to watch.

Some of the best pit action tends to take place in the wee hours of the morning. A couple of notables; Dan Gurney's Toyota team changed a GTP engine in under 20 minutes in 1992. In 1987 Jay Kjoller blew an engine in his Porsche, went to the parking lot and pulled the 911 he drove down from Temperence Mich. and swapped it into his race car in about an hour - finished the race, swapped it back and drove the 911 home.

The president of Daytona Speedway, Robin Braig, just cracked a Bud Lite on the air. What time is it there? Noon? That's late for Daytona Beach. Pretty funny.

John D ;I do remember the Kjo;ller story
OH the glory of the GTP days
At Pocono many many years ago I witnessed Junior Johnson 's crew replace a blown engine during a race and get back on track I think in less tan 13 minutes. Both scenarios would not be allowable in today's rules.

Watching it all on TV this yr., usually go there for the whole weekend but we needed to spend the $$ on getting the kart ready for the FKCS season, last couple of yrs. we had credentials for the pits and rub elbows with the elite, we were able to sit in on the drivers meeting before the green flag, at least the Nascar boys are a little different at the 24 hrs. they will sit and shoot the bull w/you, except Montoya he's still an Ass no matter where you see him Very Happy

Allmendinger is on fire! Literally. Out of the race with an hour and 17 minutes left.

I've watched about 11 hours so far. Took a break to put some more parts on my new kart chassis. Seems like a lot of attrition. I've always thought if you can really concentrate on being reliable in an endurance race you can have a great finish. Short shift where you can, don't overstress the engine, easy on the brakes, seems like the way to go.

Forgot to say. I'm a Chevy guy and I hate the look of the new Camaros. Looks like someone stepped on a minivan.

Jeff G : Having had the priveledge of working with various tracks ,Nascar ,and Grand -Am having a hard card credential certainly puts a whole different perspective on racing . You are also correct that the Nascar boys are a little more laid back at Grand-Am events. I do consider myself somewhat lucky to have had some 1 on 1 conversations with some of the best drivers in the world ,something that I would have never guessed 40 years ago.. Personally I am NOT a big fan of Montoya's BOSS but that is another story. I would also put Mario and Micheal Andretti in the same class.

Ahh, the glory days indeed.

Before moving to NC I lived near Temperence and bought Jay's "winter car" a 1973 914. After moving to NC I spent about 2 years prepping it for E-Prod. The rust didn't matter, had the chassis dipped and built a semi-tube frame/cage and all fiberglass panels and raced it for about 5 years. I had some great help from Amos Johnson/Team Highball, and was part of the team from 82-89. Amos bought one of the Spice GTP cars and fitted it with an alumimum block Pontiac V8 for a Pontiac Trans-Am branded package when Pontiac pulled out at the last minute.

After John Bishop's illness, IMSA was never the same. Except maybe the spectator carnival at Sebring. Laughing

i don't remember the specifics but it was Darrell Waltrips car and i do remember it was either 11 or 15 minutes. not allowed to change engines in NASCAR any more once the race starts.
