They are all about the same. Get the 4 holes down, it makes less noise.

We would probably run the 4 down but our club rules call for the 90 degree can. I was just wondering if anyone had done any testing. Thanks

I haven't seen much of a difference in either one over the other. I would run the 90 degree one as it will not put as much exhaust on your rear axle bearings.

There is a difference between the two other than noise. I would definetly test.

Has anyone out there done any comparison testing on the power output between the SSX and SSX V cans? Just curious, have been told that the 4 holes up is faster than the 90 degree one. TIA, Dave.

You do not want the holes down, unless you want to replace your bearings. WKA mandates 90 degree holes. I have never heard the noise being a problem, but check with your local rules

What ever you do dont run the can with the exhaust outlets down. The bearings get enough wear and tear to begin with plus if you add in exhaust heat that equals trouble. Most of the karts i see with them run the holes up.

Furthermore, another problem with running the holes down is that you will be blowing hot exhaust straight onto you clutch. I ran this setup (can with holes down) once upon a time and the clutch heated up to the point where the studs holding the rear sprocket on came out.

Aim the holes up and invest in a good set of earplugs (the hearing aid booth at a Costco can make you a custom-molded set for a very reasonable cost).

If any of you are wondering why the IKF mandated the SSX-V can (after a one year transistion period), this is why. If there are a several versions of the same "spec" pipe/muffler/etc. then everyone trys to figure out which version works best. Sort of ruins the whole concept of "spec".

BTW - RLV originally created the SSX-V at the request of the IKF to be at least as quiet as the SSX with the holes pointed down, while eliminated the problem of baking rear axle components. No, it was not a conspiracy to force everyone to buy new cans so RLV could make money.
