Since it seems as though a meeting later in the year in Vegas will provide a forum for dicussion on how the Max class will shape up in 2002, I would like to get some feedback fomr existing or potential max racers on what they would like to see changed, added and/or deleted for 2002. Sort of a brainstorming exercise on ideas, and a way of voicing a collective opion to the powers that be for this class.
I'll kick it off with;
Keep one weight class for senior max but raise the limit for club/local RMC racing to 170kg (374lb)
No limit on the use of composites for bodywork, seat and NON-Structural components
Allow RMC competitors with official seals to enter any RMC race but must declare only one series to be eligible for the national max championship
Allow the use of data logging devices
Allow the use of EGT probes in the pipe
Make the battery a non-tech item, the wiring harness however MUST be stock
Just my ideas...

Right on Bill! Looks good to me. This is the best reply concerning the Rotax I've seen yet.
I have already invested time and money with the way things are now and would like to see some stability in the rules.
I believe there is a tremendous upside with the addition of the JR and Heavy classes.
Besides, I would love to run the Bridgstones. |

Why don't they drop the senior age to include 16 and up like most other classes are. IMO, the 12-17 age bracket is pretty wide if you look at racers today. I also offer that Bridgestone should be the spec as well.

Jr Max class. 12-17yr age group. 308lb. Uses "official" max Jr. motor. That is basically the same as the FR, without the power valve, and a different pipe. Vega spec tire. Eligible for National finals.

So Bill...
What is the feasability of a lightweight driver being able to run in both light and heavy? Will there be a limit on amount of weight on the kart?
And when are those results gonna be posted at www.formulakart.com ? What is taking so long? HEHE

The YGK/YGR(rain) are the global spec tires. We have tested the YGK, and it is a good consistant tire, a few points harder than the YGC.

RMax Heavy class. 18+ age group. 410lb. Uses FR motor. Vega spec tire. Eligible for National finals.
All other rules staying the same.

The suggested "racer" price for the Bridgestone YGK is $179.72 per set. The suggested "racer" price for the Vega XR is $110 per set. Is the Bridgestone really $69.72 per set better?

Who cares what tires are better as long as we are all running the same ones. I`ll take $110.00 spec tires over $180.00 spec tires any day. If you run a six race series and run new tires every race, you save $420.00!
I have mixed feelings on the heavy class. I weigh in at 407lbs., so I would be right there in a heavy class, but these things have so much torque that I`m running competitivly against the light guys at 355lbs. I would much rather give up 25lbs. and run in one big class at 380lbs. Before any of you 140lb. guys complain about bolting 60lbs. of lead on your kart let me tell you about a few SuperWomen here in SoCal. They weigh between 100-115lbs. and have to bolt 85-100lbs. to their karts, and they lift their own karts, and they win.
It would be a lot more fun (isn`t that what this class is about?) to have twenty racers in one class than ten racers in two classes. It would also shorten the race day or allow us to have more track time.

| The price for the Rotax Max from www.andycoxracing.co.uk in England is 1100 pounds ($1578.). The suggested price for the Rotax Max in the USA is $2095.Is the USA Rotax Max really $517. better? One could Fedex a motor from england to the usa and still have enough left over for a couple sets of tires. |

| The serial numbers have country codes. A motor from England would not qualify you to run in the US RMC. The seller of the motors to the us would be told not to sell any more over here. It is to protect the guy here that has the inventory and has paid for it. |

| My point exactly. There is absolutly no differance between a UK and a USA motor except the "country code" and around $500. |

And tariffs and duties and taxes and .....
And marketing and rental fleets and importer support....
Equals $500.

I think everyone should support their local kart shop. The guy you buy from overseas isn`t going to be there to support you at the track.
I also think the local kart shop should support their loyal customers by charging a fair price. A fair price includes a decent profit for the shop owner.
Having said that, why would engines and tires cost so much more here in the US than they would in the UK or Australia? They have to pay for Tarrifs and shipping and all the other related cost too. It probably cost more to ship to Australia than the US. Are there cost that we have here that the other countries don`t have?
Just curious.
