i have a intek pro 206 and i am almost positive that it is the same block as the animal. if it is what is that most bang for my buck wise for horsepower gains. i talked to an engine builder today and he thought that if i changed to rockers, springs, push rods and cam with possible a new rod that he thought that would be about a three horsepower gain. any other cheap upgrades.

how much do all these parts cost and with i have to mess with the time and carb?

The carb and intake is also different and the Intek head has a different, very restricted intake port.
I don't have prices here with me. I'm sure you would be cheaper off to sell the Intek and just buy an Animal.
To be legal under WKA rules it HAS to be an Animal.

it is just for fun and not for racing just fun track days. i have aleopard for racing but i have a old chassis sitting there and this motor also sitting there and it just hit me that the animal and this motor were the same block. i just want something to have fun in and i could put 200 in it and be fine so what can i do with about 200 dollars to put in to it.

If you have no rules to meet, I agree with Chad. You might want to check at 4 cycle. com in the classified or some local Animal people, there is used stuff out there

what power gains can i expect from these parts and what estimated cost is there. i know between the block and the carb there is a plastic spacer is that normal? also what kind of rpms can it turn with stock internals but the springs changed?

Hi Chris,

I've done quite a few of these engines and they will work but Bob's right, you'll be money ahead just buying an Animal. The Animal block and head are different (stronger block, different intake port, etc.) Plus you get a better carb, flywheel, coil, and it'll make 8.5 hp out of the box on gas.

If you really want to get into the Intek here's what you'll need to do.

Open her up and remove the governor, then replace the con rod with a billet one or at a minimum a stock Animal rod. Get an aftermarket cam, even the Animal one will be better but there a whole bunch of choices depending on what you want out of the engine. The lifters are fine as are the pushrods and rocker arms, but the valve springs should be upgraded if you want to turn some decent rpm's. The Intek valves use the old flathead style keepers which I wouldn't trust for a race engine, you can get some Animal valves with the automotive style keepers. Next you'll need to port the head. The Intek head has an emissions ramp that needs to be removed in addition to smoothing out the short side radius. Not a big deal but if you don't know what it should look like it's easy to mess it up. While you're at it you might as well cut .065 off the head surface to bring the compression up a bit. You'll need a better carb next. You can get an Animal carb or a Tillotson with a billet manifold. Of course you'll want the exhaust header and silencer so you can run it on your local track. This next part is very important REPLACE THE FLYWHEEL . The cast iron one was made to run 3600 RPM and if it breaks it can hurt someone very badly.

If you do all of this you can expect between 10 and 15 HP depending on how good your port job is and what cam you use. And unless you have a whole bunch of Animal take-off parts lying around your shop like me you'll be way more than $200 into it. Of course you could always just pull the governor and drill the jet and run it like it is. You'll have plenty of power for your buddies who are used to concession karts. It'll last ok as long as you don't rev past about 4500 RPM and if you gear it tall that's all you'll need for them.

Don't get me wrong, what you're doing is a great idea and I wish more karters would do it. Getting new people out to the track is the best thing for the sport, and cheap 4 cycles are the way to do it IMHO.

I just want you to be aware that you're not likely to see much improvement with $200 in mods to an Intek. Take a close look at the deals you can get on the LO206 and you'll see that for just about $100 more you can have a Briggs race engine.
