Marking threads as read setting

Is there a setting one could chenge that marks threads as read. Every time I close the browser threads get marked as read even if I did not open them. For example I go to general discussion, threads that are unread are marked as such "yellow", I hit "mark all threads as read" and return to forum index. So far so good. Now I read threads in shifter forum and the ones I read are now not "unread", that's fine, but when I close the browser "IE6" btw it marks all threads in all other forums as read. When I open the browser again it shows only the threads posted since the last browser close as "unread". Is there a setting I can change to only mark threads as read if I actually went into them or hit "mark all threads as read"? Did I confuse everyone with this?

Hi Michael,

Yes, a little confusing. Me personally, I would either go to the upper right link that will show you all posts made since your last visit. Or else skim through the forum and read those that interest you. Maybe other users can chime in on what they do.

Show threads since last visit is the same. The problem is that the visit ends when the browser is closed. So if one has to close browser before finishing reading all the unread threads they would be assumed read and next time you open browser and "Show threads made after last visit" they do not show. Here is how I can explain it the best. Open browser "Show threads made since last visit" should see more then 10 of them. Do not read any, just close the browser and open it again immidiately go to the forum and "Show threads since last visit" Now there aren't any. (threads you did not read are marked read on browser close) or very few that were made in the last few seconds. I can live with this, just wondered if this was controlled by a setting or it's just the way is.

You are right in the way that program works. There are no settings that can be changed for that. Sorry.
