After months of waiting, it is finally here. The 34th running of the Road America SuperNationals. WKA and Badger Kart Club are working together to bring the Zoom Zoom Nationals for the Manufacturer's Cup Series and Road Racing Series. The sprint drivers will be chasing each other around the Briggs and Stratton Motorplex while the road racers tackle the historic 4-mile course.

The event is expected to be the largest of its kind and eKartingNews.com will be there covering all aspects of the weekend. Watch here once the action begins Friday for updates from both tracks and also sign on if your going to be one of the many who will be in Elkhart Lake, Wisconsin.

Does anyone know if there is WI FI access at the track and would that include the sprint track?

Looking forward to my first Man-Cup race and the education I'm about to recieve Shocked I'm sure it will pay off down the road Cool

There is WI-FI in the scoring building, if you can get close enough to it.

Great weather today and tons of karts in the paddock at the sprint track. The forecast calls for rain tomorrow, but Sat. & Sun. should be great.

Very disappointing news. WKA just announced that they will not be having RaceFanRadio and SpeedCasttv at the Zoom Zoom Nationals. Sad

07.09. 2009 – Due to an eleventh hour loss of a primary sponsor, RaceFanRadio and SpeedcastTV.com will not be able to make the trip to Road America for this weekend’s Zoom Zoom Nationals, meaning there will be no live video or audio webcast of the event.

David and Rob will do their typical great job!!

Disappointing is a mild way of putting it. I was really looking forward to this event only to have the rug pulled out from under us at the last possible moment.

Good luck to everyone. Maybe next year.

EKN Trackside Live: Friday Morning Welcome

Good day, race fans -

The EKN staff is now on-site here at Road America. We've parked the motorhome in the Man Cup paddock and from my position inside Carousel, I just watched as David Cole roared by on the big track in his Stock Leopard entry. David and I will be working together to provide coverage from both tracks, but I expect that it will be easier for us to get the quick results from the Man Cup events. We'll start up an official NRRS event thread as well in the Road Race Section of the forums.

The Man Cup paddock is very full and I'll be heading over to the track soon to get some preliminary notes and photos.

Best of luck to David. He deserves to be on the other side of the fence once in a while. I could tell at Eagle Point he really wanted to be on the track - until he stepped outside for a breath of sweltering air. Cool

EKN Trackside: Friday Paddock Pass

I've just come back to my laptop after a run through the paddock area and a stop at the fence to take in a couple of practice sessions. In talking to several Man Cup regulars, the turnout is down significantly from the normal standards, although I haven't been able to get any concrete numbers. The paddock is still pretty full here at the Briggs & Stratton Motorplex, and the sun is shining, which makes is a bigger shame that more drivers aren't here. As expected, much of the paddock talk is centered on the 'low' entry numbers, which are still likely over 400. The economy is the obvious and undeniable factor, but many are pointing to the Thursday practice session that they believe is adding an unnecessary cost to participating.

On track, I was only able to get some info on the TaG class, which has Chris Wehrheim setting the early pace. Canadian Marco Di Leo is a little less than a half-second back, and John Zartarian had stepped it up in the last session that hit the track. Interestingly, Franklin's Jamie Sieracki is back behind the wheel of a Merlin, and he looked pretty quick in the last session that I saw.

If you have any questions, please post them here, and I'll try to chase down the answers.

I hope the Rotaxs are more than .5 slower than the Leopards. Jamie was 1.2 sec faster than me Embarassed a couple of weeks ago at Road America and I was hoping that at least half of that difference was the Rotax. God knows not all of that difference can be the driver. Smile

Is anyone talking about the bumpiness of the track? My head almost fell off.

Paul,

The drivers are definitely talking about the track. It's pretty bumpy and several are saying that they're getting quite beat up.

The Motorplex has a nice track layout and being alongside the hill is very spectator friendly; but, the surface is incredibly bumpy. As the rubber builds up I would suspect that this will be a popular topic. Perhaps unpopular is more likely.
