I've seen a few of these in pictures and what not. They look insane in the pictures.

Are they really that fast?

I have driven duals, what you need to know ? Go to New Castle on the 18,19,20 of June and watch some of the greatest names in Karting drive the C-Open Karts. They will thrill you

I traded sessions in my HPV/Birel for sessions in a '63 Fox with dual Mac101's with a racer a couple years ago. Good times for us both.

What's it like?

TAG horsepower with shopping kart tires, effectively no brakes, no bumpers, and about as long as a cadet kart. I loved it!

Now if you could just make them reliable...

Andy

I had a Rupp dart Kart with 2 McCulloch 101aa reed engines in 1972. It would push your head back when you open the throttle and slide sideways for days. BTW, it wasn't vintage when I drove it, it was state of the art.

Gif Cool

Drove a B-Open Bucket bug with dual bm-100's, Hartman clutches. No weight, so the acceleration was shocking. Those Goodyear bluestreaks left a bit to be desired, I must admit. Blew up the left hand motor bad. All sorts of "fuel" was used back then in the open classes.

Gary Emmick once let me drive his twin B-Bombs. Shocked Shocked Very Happy Very Happy

What a drive, but I wonder if I would have had much more fun if I could have seen where I was going. The vibration was so bad, my eye balls were rattling in their sockets. It was a lot of fun.

Man they sound fun. I was looking at a picture of a enduro kart at cmc the other day with some kind of air cooled twin 2 strokes. Looked to be a fairly newer chassis, No body work but the engines looked something like a pc90r prc90 whatever that engine is. I'd say it was a 80s kart. I just got that sick fascination with 2 engines...

If I remember right, the method for finding the correct gears on the sprint tracks consisted of taking teeth off until you no longer burned the tires off coming out of the corners. There is some great you tube stuff of twins if you want to look.

Twins are not confined to the Historic racing scene.
Down here in Australia they are a regular class in the dirt racing arena. Dual KT100s, dual Parilla reeds, etc etc.
Some European manufacturers offer dual Rotax TaG karts, and one of the biggest classes in Europe /UK and Australian Endurance racing is a Dual engined 4 stroke honda powered kart.
Riley Will up in Canada has also built new dual engined reed powered karts recently. They are featured on this very forum.

And more recently the SQ Racing outfit produced the "Diablo" .. a dual motor TaG kart.

This was the previous thread ..some tasty pictures !

Toe guards (bumpers to the younger crowd) were made mandatory after the 1975 Nationals (first race was typically around September after the Nationals). Also being at Pomona, that might be early 70's?

Can anyone ID that?

John, do you have any photos of Julie in the C-kart? I think she drove it a few times...

I'll have to build one one of these days...

I just noticed the kart in that first pic has front disk brakes. Pretty awesome to see what kind of equipment they were working with back in the 70s.
