| Are the Road Rat karts sold by Gatormoto legal for SCCA autocrosses? You can buy a kid kart for $900! I don't think my kids need anything "competitive" to start out with. The first year will likely be lots of "what's a gate" and "what's a pointer cone" type stuff. |

I never even thought to look at the Gatormoto Kid Karts when making recommendations to local families looking to get into the FJC group.
The question to ask is about the engine, is it a Comer 50/51? Currently, that's all that is legal in FJC.

It's a "2.4hp 4-stroks Honda clone". I didn't realize that the rules stated it has to be a Comer 50/51. Wonder if they would sell them without an engine? |

Yes, that is the case. A new non-blueprinted Comer 51 is $750. The Road Rat XK comes with an engine ready to put on the track for $900. I think we need to petition for these karts to be legal. I'll start a thread on the SCCA forums. |

Hey gang, interesting topic! No petition necessary! 
The KAC just discussed this last Thursday at the request of the Philly Region SCCA (for Christmas presents to be exact).
Here is the note I sent to the Philly Region Kart Steward:
"...it was decided last night that we'll allow the karts to run on a provisional basis for 2009 determined by the safety of the kart. What this means is if there is any reason the Junior Kart Steward or the KAC deems it unsafe, it will not be allowed, regardless of people having already bought them.
However, if there's anything so severely wrong with it that we would disapprove, then the parent wouldn't want their kid in the kart either. Examples would be consistent failing brakes, easily broken frame or unusual signs of stress, or the kart not being up to spec on general kart safety.
Having said the above, I highly doubt that this will come into play. We just have to be upfront about it, knowing that it's not used by or approved by typical karting organizations.

Yes, absolutely fantastic. For solo purposes especially, a 5 year old does not need a $700 engine to enjoy themselves.

Hey everyone. Just wanted to let you know that we just got a new shipment of the XK in the other day. For those that were asking, we do also sell them as chassis kits without the engines and tires, should you want to add a comer engine. That being said, we've had several racers get 1st place in the comer classes they were racing in last season, with our 2.4hp engine on their kart. Let me know if you have any questions. We offer discounts if multiple karts are ordered at the same time, so get a few orders together and give us a call!

We (Philly) just ran an event on Sunday where our first FJC karter ran for the first time with her clone. Unfortunately she was the only jr running that event, so there is nothing to compare it to. My boy will be running in the first summer series event (with Comer50), but that's in 4 weeks. Not much help there, I'm afraid.
I will say that the kart seemed to run flawlessly and the speed was OK.
