Hi guys,

Do any of you know of a modern twin engine chassis that can be used for direct drive? I have seen the Ital Corse, but have been told that it is virtually impossible to actually receive it.

Many thanks,
Bill Gillespie

Bill,

E-mail me at rwill@brceng.com and I will send you pics of what we have built.....Get a 125cc chassis and you are almost done!!! Very easy to do and really fun. Ours made 58HP and revved to 19,400 RPM!!! Pulled from 6,000 RPM. Being direct drive we played with the firing order and definitely found that it changed things...

Bill,

Don't worry about twin rotors in the rear, just complicates things and adds un-neccesary expense. I still have the CNC programs for the custom engine mounts which offset slightly more to the right and is equally offset for the left engine. Direct drive is my preference, again simpler, and you can see the effect of firing order and traction Shocked

The only extravagence I would do is treat yourself to the new generation of 30mm butterfly carbs as used on the new KF1 engines.

Mirror the right side 92mm spacing engine mount rails on the left, extend the rear bumper, move the brake caliper to the rear cross bar (have this cross bar go straight across the back), left side bumper bar sleeve may need to be modified to emulate the right side, re-position steering uprights in the center, have the seat mounts (ribs) come off the now parallel rear cross member, brace them back to the center just shy of the new caliper mount.......And yer DONE....EASY! Oh ya, cut the straight 100/110 exhausts thru the constant 8 times at 5 degree angles, twist 180 degrees, and reweld to exit straight back.

You will love it! Let me know if you want any help......I have been commissioned to do this in the past if all you wanna do is write a check Wink Problem is I know I would be building 2 again....Oh well Rolling Eyes

The seat I had mounted was a Tillet full cover large. Same outter shell as a no pad XL.

I'm curious about how well this will work especially considering the weight and power of a twin engine kart.

I've thought about doing it on my single engine kart to even out the axle flex but, always thought it would be too flimsy to have the brake caliper supported way out in the middle of the flexable cross tube. Also there's nothing to support it on the top, it's just welded on the bottom right?

Maybe you know something I don't but, sounds like disaster to me.

Walt,

I supported the caliper on both sides. Pad wear was even and braking just like a regular 125cc. Worked Great!

Its not essential to move the brake rotor . this is on a modified Top kart :-

And you may find this link useful:-

i've been reading this post just because i love to see the way people come up with ideas then create them

anyway, in that picture of the Top Kart, wouldn't all of that extra heat warp that rotor in no time? once you get a couple of laps in on a tight-ish track, those brake pads would be toast and the rotor would be cherry red. Is that not an actual problem? if it is, you think 1 1/2in heat sheild wrap around the header would at least help

maybe one day i'll have the $$$ to do some monster twin 250 CVT driven kart Shocked

I'm loving this thread. I use to have a Red Dart kart with duel mac 101aa engines, beautiful chrome cowls with american flags, wish I had a camera back then.

Chad, Is there a reason you went with a reverse rotation engine on the left? Is there enough room for the sprocket on the inside of the brake disk?

Also, I'd love to see how you modified the frame for the left engine mount.

The reverse rotation engine has the PTO on the other side.

Pictures are always the coolest.. I am not that cool and cannot post them Sad If anyone is interested to post the pics our the twin we did, please e-mail me and I will send you the pictures to put on this thread.

I am jazzed to build some more. The feeling of driving one of these karts is like the acceleration of the best 125 kart you have ever driven, coupled with perfect balance and feel.......Totally fun!

I propose a new stars class:

Year 2000 or older ICA engines (aircooled) ~1500.00 each.
18,000 rpm rev limit (these engines last a long time there.
24mm ICA carbs.

This would yield, IMO, a cheaper and faster ride than ICC. And the spectacle would be an adrenalin over dose Shocked

Riley

Don't forget the sound! I ran twin engine laydown karts for years, and the thing I miss most is the sound they made, especially at high rpm.

Walt,
unfortunately that kart is not mine, though i have had twin A/C motors.
Twins are still common in Australia, especially for Speedway karts.
For construction details, have a look at the Trulli kart link

I'm surprised that this topic drew so much positive interest.....the Dismore track outside of Indy has a class for true unlimited karts....kind of a" "run what you brung" class. I believe the New Castle motorsports track has a website with details.

Maybe if enough racers were interested, a specialty event could be held for twins in conjunction with one of their regular series races. Awesome karts on a world-class sprint track.....any interest ?

Regards,
Bill
