Anyone interested in the brewing 4-stroke vs 2-stroke competition in the motocross world should check out the Sept. edition of Motocross Action magazine. A good ariticle that raises some interesting points facing the AMA & Motorcycle manufactures. This is something that will eventually affect us since we are dependent on bike engines for our 125 & 250 classes.
Also check out Sept Dirtrider for a short article on the way cool VOR 501 from Italy. Magnesium & billet 4 banger with a real 6 speed box. Very sexy!! I better go measure my frame rails on I.C.E. kart!!
Could be interesting in a couple of years. |

Paul,
I hope your right! As a future 250 racer I think we do need more choices than we currently have. But I would also say we need solid, fundamentally sound, long term solutions.
I like the idea of some kind of controlled 4 stroke motor that will last for at least 100 hours of hard running. If I could pay $3,000 for a motor like that, and had a reliable series to run in with a reasonable following, I would definitly be interested.
I'm not sure about running all these motors against each other though, as the differences in these motors seem to make large differences, like 5 speed v. 6 speed. I suppose you could try to balance with weight, but it would be better if we had 100 guys at a race with 4 different packages.
Just promise me that no one is think about 250cc clutch karts!

Gary, I posted a few weeks ago that 1500, of the Biland SA250 4-stroke "clutch" motors were reported to be on route to USA.
Check the thread in the 4-stroke forum.
There are various forms of these purpose designed 4-stroke kart motors available in Europe. |

Hey Chad,
I've seen the SA stuff and from what I read, it's not really a package that can run against the current 2 stokes and the new talked about 4 stokes in the 250 "class". I guess I should clarify that I'm referring to the 426cc type motors which make 60-70 hp. I see the Biland as a 125 level motor, but please let me know if that is not accurate.
Thanks,
Gary K.
