THE PLACE to get them CHEAP is Monarch Spark Plugs 888-800-9629 you gap them at around 19th thousands and you should double check w/ your motor builder. The plugs to have are the BR-10EV for the budget racer ($4.84)and R 385-105P for long tracks and short if you can afford them ($23.66)

Local dealer said cr125 call for BR8-EV, what is the difference between 8 and 10, does anybody lower the heads here? Should I be concerned about piston hitting the plug?

Michael,
The plug will not hang down any further into the combustion chamber. An 8 vs. a 10 in an NGK numbering system, the 8 is hotter, meaning it retains more heat not that it fires any hotter. (other brands it may be the other way, an 8 is colder) Look at a 10 and an 8 side by side, notice the porcelain by the ground electrode. There you will see the difference. I should note that I am no expert on spark plugs. If you really want a trick race plug, search for the NGK R6120-105 and cap to go with it. Together they will be about $100. I'll post a picture on my site of the plug under Technical stuff in a few minutes.

So why would one want to spend these cubic dollars for a trick plug? What would it gain me? The picture looked like it might be a surface gap...? |

Don,
It was explained to me this way.
The plug and cap that Ronnie is talking about is MUCH closer to a racing application set-up...actually, IT IS a racing applications set-up. The normal plugs we use, NGK 10-EV, etc... are a typical standard everyday use plug and we use them in motors that have been built for maximum RPM and tolerances (most of not running stock anyway).
The set-up Ronnie is showing will probably not make you noticably quicker, but it is a more proper application for racing. Is it worth the expense? Probably not unless you have exhausted every other avenue possible and you are looking for that .001 of a second.
If you think they look cool and have lots of money... then go for it. I had the chance to convert, but I am on a budget and no way am I going to spend $25 for a spark plug.

PS- Matt Kull, they do make an 11.... but like Ronnie said, it won't make the motor run cooler, it just retains less heat in the plug. Not to be used to fix a motor running a little warm. |
