Jeff Hudlett a long time motor builder and innovator builds these carbs by hand machining them from billet.
They are a pumper type and do not use a float. The pump is self contained. They have a fixed jet size with external screw adjustments for idle and full throttle. The needle on the slide is still used as a part throttle adjustment.
Per KART and IKF rules, they are not legal. Per SKUSA rules they are allowed in S1, G1, and SP classes only.
They do add some bottom end usable power, but do not have an advantage on the mid & top end. The big advantage to me is that I can adjust it on track rather than re-jet the carb.
There are gadgets that allow on track adjustment such as the dial-a-jet. This works by adding an extra fuel dispersion tube with an adjustable flow and jetting lean to allow the new dispersion system to fatten it up. These systems are a bit crude and may not produce a linear response.
As we will be running 2 125's next year, we are considering evaluating several different carb options. Edelbrock, Dellorto, Mikuni, Kiehn, PSI. |
