But Mark is right is boils down to what the big dogs are getting the breaks on which chassiss woill be the Hot ticket. Myself, I would go back to a Comet in a heartbeat if I did not have so much wrapped up into the present chassiss. I just love the handling for my driving level and my driving style. Oh well, I never did follow the crowd thats why I am lost so often.

Just for the record the Comet I have did win to series championships before I retired it.

I'm not surprised at all that the old Mach 1 was a good kart. In it's day there had to be 1000 of them at local tracks across the country. Thanks to my dad and our customers in the mid to late 80's, the Mach 1 was extremely successful. I ran one when I started karting in 92 and ran updated versions up until 98 before we started testing new stuff. I think that kart was one of the best of it's age, but the new tires and axles made it obsolete, to soft a frame.

Anyway, here's a list of who makes what -

Tony Kart, Trulli, Kosmic, Corsa

Mike Wilson, Paul Tracy Kart

Parolin, MBA

CRG, GP Chassis

If you can add to this list go ahead!

I believe under Parolin you can ad KGB and INterkart.

In the early 90's, at MRP we took a Tony Kart and a Haase and sat them side by side. Change the paint colors and you wouldn't have known which was which.

Another ItalCorse also makes Swiss Hutless.

Top is Top, Birel is Birel, if they make karts for anyone then I didn't know it. Same with PCR. Also, what the heck happened to Jolly Karts? Are they still in business?

I knew Parolin had four lines and it looks like you nailed it. I don't know who makes Haase, but I believe it's just Haase. Also Sodi is Sodi.

Hasse is made by Tony.

CRG also makes Renspeed.

Swiss Hutless has a long soap opera story as to how they got to where they are now. It starts with D. Parilla I believe.

Maybe it's a different Reynard, or they stole the name. I heard someone is making a composite kart frame to test, THAT would be interesting, and expensive!

Actually it is the Reynard that all of us know. All of the artwork and logo's were dead spot on as to what the actuall Reynard 'Text and Logo' insignias have....

Remember the little red fox?

I've got a photo if anyone wants to see it

Another of the dirty little secrets in karting is that many of the chassis come from the same factories. That is why many of the parts interchange. We use DFM and they really are made in a small factory in Italy and they only make their own chassis. they buy stuff from others to hang on them but the tubing is designed, cut, welded and assembled by them. That is why their welding is so superior and the chassis are so straight.

I think people in general focus on some drivers being able to afford better motors because its an easy thing to pick up on. It's harder to see the hours spent testing to get the best out of one of about 25 equally good chassis, which still costs big money but has far greater effect.

It's not really a dirty little secret, or any secret at all for that matter. For CIK homologated karts you just have to look at the homologation list because you can't be listed as the manufacturer unless they've seen you've got all the jigs and stuff. I agree with you that smaller factories often with some great products, but then again some come out with utter pants in which case you're way better off with a private label Topkart or Gillard or whatever.
