I have never understood the FTD or Top Time of Day trophy. I have won it many times in CM because there were no AM, BM, or F125 participants. It's like a second award for the first place guy in whatever happens to be the fastest class in attendance. They even give this award at Nationals, it's a joke. ( Wow dude you beat that Civic in your Formula Ford, that's some amazing driving! ) |

I don't know about a physical "trophy", we just have a listing at the top of our results, trophies are only given to the classes. In fact, we're getting away from a trophy for the classes at every event, and going to something simpler and cheaper, with something more elaborate at the end of the season.
Now, considering we have an A Mod and a couple of B Mods, there's somewhat of a challenge. But I see your point.
I have a feeling you'll see PAX numbers change based on the asphalt of Topeka. Maybe I'm wrong, but I would think the karts will find grip easier on the asphalt than some of the higher mod cars.

I'm not sure which SE Region of SCCA John is referring too, but all regions that I have been in welcome any karts to their competitions.
As far as FTD is concerned, I regularly duke it out with a B-Mod and soon to be A-Mod driver for the prize. Beating a kart can be done, anyone ever heard of a BBR Shark? _________________ #96 - 2000 Trackmagic Demon / Stock Honda |

| FTD is pretty meaningless when you have no competition. Top PAX, however, has some merit. I use PAX as a way of judging my results when nobody else is in my class. |

Unfortunately PAX is only slightly usable method of judging result for a kart. I've been 4s behind PAX leader and nearly 1s ahead of other Nationals trophy winner in F125.
One time I got PAX win and my run was crap. I got out and observed my left front wheel was toed out about 10degrees! (really had been fighting dartiness all day!)
Basically F125 is the most course dependent class (with AM the only possible class more course dependent). It is also very surface dependent, with some gravelly loose asphalt allowing a near automatic PAX win, while smooth asphalt almost always assures a loss.
Speaking of AM - yes.... yes... I have heard of the BBR Shark! Yes it can beat a F125 on raw, last year at the Peru tour Sebastian Strauss (consistenyly near top F125 at Topeka) was (over 2 days) *ELEVEN* seconds behind the Shark. 94.X to 83.X -
Ever since that day, I've been wondering who replaced my CR125 with a briggs.... |
