Big F125 Regions

Our Jr karts are gridded in the most convenient location to the start/finish. Actually our region typically has F125 gridded in the same location (most of the time).

For runs, we will let the cars on course finish their run (at a usual audit location like the end of the heat) then start sending kids while T&S conducts the audit. Once the last kid is back to grid, we start moving regular cars back to the start line.

We also have to stop the course mid-way in the heat for 2nd drivers in FJr. Yes, this takes another 40 seconds to clear the course but we have enough 2-driver Jr karts to warrent this format. It also usually falls at an audit time.

This way the kids all get a chance to get out of the kart, talk to their parents and switch drivers (if necessary) after every run.

So you're doing it safe as well. We are simply too strapped for time to cater to the kids in that manner (and I have two of them). We run over 1000 runs a day, not including reruns, so we need to move swiftly. Heck, the committee had to stew over running so many F125's this year mixed in with the cars...

The other nice thing about not running the kids with the cars is this: the kids are NEVER running at the same time their parents are, no matter what the parents drive.
I know I'd go NUTS if both my kids drove in the same heat as my wife and I!

Sounds like Detroit runs the same format as OVR. The trick was to clear the last full body in a timely fashion so there was little delay in releasing the juniors. Forty to sixty seconds was about the delay time we had last year. We also ran the 125's with the juniors. We did a specific grid where 125s go first, then FJa's, B's and finally the kid kart. Our juniors were gridded fastest to slowest, so we rarely had any delays. When we had only a couple 125's this worked ok. At the end of the year when we had 4-5 shifters and 7 juniors,we realized we had to change. For the last event we ran the shifters at the end of the mod cars group and it worked out well. We plan to run the same way this year.

Stay away from the Albany, NY region. They have said in conversations that they do not want karts at their events but I am welcome to bring my jepp out. They will not state in an e-mail the same. With that approach and the distance to the next closest area I am looking to sell my shifter.

In the San Diego region, we had a pretty heated debate when it came to allowing karts to run. One concession the karters had to make was to exclude karts from the top-time-of-day trophy competition.

WAIT a minute! There are two "regular" Solo classes that are "supposed" to be faster than F125!
What is going on with the egos of these people?

That said, I wouldn't give a crap about not having my name at the top, it's pretty much a given in an F125, so why bother. People see you run your time. Heck, most stop what they're doing to watch the karts. Although, I'm sure that won't last forever.
I think the fast kids still steal the show.

They are all still pissed because they got ripped off by the BMW/Acura/Subaru/Mitsubishi dealers........Most of them just need to relax and realize that cars aren't so quick when compared to karts especially on tight courses. With that knowledge, it is sad to think that a cone killer can even have an ego large enough or a brain small enough to be belittled by a little go kart......whatever. There doesn't seem to be any real prejudice towards karts in the mid west but I have only attended one event.

Well, we're welcoming them here in D.C., of course it helps that I'm on committee Razz

We've had a couple of shifters for the last couple of years, but this year it's 10 so it's a bigger impact as to how we handle them. One event so far and everything is reasonably smooth.

I ran with the club in Columbus, Ohio club and they welcomed karts at their events. It was my first experience with SCCA Solo and I thought that would be the norm so I was looking forward to my move to Albany. Good clubs are great to be a part of and you are lucky if you have one that welcomes karts. Afterall, it is a recognized catagory at the national level.
