I have both temperatures reading very high... Started out at about 1300F as the day went on dropped down to about 300F, as soon as the speedometer and lap timer connections were pulled from main unit the temparatures started reading normal again. Anybody had this happen to them? What do I do? Connection seems to be good, Micron is about 3 months old

Try putting a fresh battery in.

If a fresh battery doesn't work, send it back to AIM. They have a very quick turn around time. I sent mine out last year on a Monday and had it back in time to race with it that Sat. They have excellent customer service. A rare thing these days.

A common cause of incorrect operation of most gauges is caused by misrouting of the sensor leads. The tach and speed leads are the most critical. The tac lead should never be looped(coiled) and needs to be as far away from the ignition source as possible. All the leads need to be separated and routed as far away from each other as possible. Fresh batteries are also absolutely necessary. Placement of the becon/transmitter is also very critical. The transmitter must be placed on the inside of the track and face outward so that the infared beam does not project to the other side of the track. If the beam crosses the track you will get erroneous or split times. Idealy there should only be one transmitter on the track. You only need one! Also, the receiver should not face the sun when it goes past the transmitter. The transmitter should face East and the receiver should face West. That simple.

If you are still having problems send the unit back to Aim. they are very good about supporting their product.

Patrick, I follow all those procedures.
The problem occures with engine off. When I turn mycron on it says battery is good, but I will replace it just in case....
As soon as it is turned on, both temperatures jump to 1300F, when I unplug speedometer cable, the temps go to ambient....
I will take the thing off the kart, replace the battery just in case... If that does not help I will send the unit in.

Micheal,

When you turn your michron on it usually says good data, are you confusing this with good battery? There is a small battery low indicator that comes on when the battery power drops. As far as I know there is no indicator to tell you your battery is good. You need to change the battery as soon as that light comes on if not sooner.

You didn't say whether or not the speed sensor is working or not. If it doesn't work, my guess is a bad wheelspeed sensor or sensor connector. If the power and ground are getting together in that connector, it will pull down the whole system. Which could make the thermocouples read full scale (1300). By disconnecting the sensor you are taking the dead short away and everything works fine again. Try borrowing a friend's wheelspeed that is known to work fine and plug it in.
