I'm looking into buying my son a 2-cycle Sprint kart. Changing over from Briggs. The owner has a Top Kart JT-94 (?), but says he's not sure what year it was manufactured. It appears to be new, no signs of wear at all. Anybody have any facts on this chassis, years of production, last year built, characteristics; good, bad or otherwise? The package also includes a new CKT blueprinted KT100 with Steel Nytro clutch. Opinions wanted.
Main use: 1/4 to 8/10th mile sprint tracks and autocross.

Thanks,

Curtis

TopKart is a good chassis here are some dealers for you.
I have had sealings with Empire and found them to be very helpful and freindly.

Thanks, Pat. I was beginning to think that Top Kart was a bad word.

Curtis, Check out the IKF nationals held @ Santa Maria Ca. this year. Top Kart won at least 6 championships in Sprint in both adult and Jr. Top Karts are very popular out here in the west. And I agree, Empire is the place to call. How old is your son. Cadet, or full size?

Robert, my son is 13. He's 5'5" & 130lbs, so, full size. He's been running an extended porch Emmick for the past season, so I hope he's not too cramped in a standard chassis. He'll be running whatever the appropriate WKA class would be for his age. The kart has a fresh CKT KT-100 with an A-2 pipe and HDC-3 clutch. This is our first shot at 2 cycle sprint, been running Super Stock Briggs in SOLO II. Would you happen to know where I could get some chassis set-up info for the Top Kart, or does standard methodology apply?

Thanks,

Curtis

I do not want to steer anyone away from clutch karts but if I were doing it I would move him into a shifter as soon as possible. He sounds like a big boy and will fit nicely into a shifter. Depending on age a 60cc is a great start.

Pat, I appreciate your input. My son and I discussed going to 80cc shifters exstensively. Considering that he is moving from 3 years of autocross (Briggs SS) to sprints, he felt that he would be more comfortable driving in traffic in a clutch kart first (perhaps a season or two) then going to shifters. I know it seems like throwing money away, but, in my opinion, he is more likely to have fun and stick with this if he's not being forced into a situation he's uncomfortable with. There's enough pressure in life. Karting is his hobby, and should be fun. Personnaly, I'm glad that he's comfortable enough to tell me which kart he would prefer to race, instead of "letting" me buy a shifter, then quitting because he didn't like it. Ultimately, it was his decision to make. Who knows, he might like 2 cycles so much that he never runs a shifter. Would that be such a bad thing? Besides, aren't 2 cycles the most raced karts in the world?

Curtis
