Head temp verses water temp.

I was just reading the thread on cold stick lean stick and there was a comment about head verses water temp. I just switched to a head temp sensor, so I'm I still looking for 130-135 deg or is it different?

My experience with using both sensors indicates that the difference between CHT & H20 is minimal once the engine is at operating temp. 5-10 deg.

I think it depends on the motor. I run a Pavesi 125 type C rotary and I usually see about 200deg head temp and about 150 water temp. My MacMinarelli ran about the same.

It depends on how much mass (aluminum) is immediately around the sparkplug, what the water flow is around that area, and how much surface area of the sparkplug boss is directly exposed to the water.

I run a head temp and I also have a infared laset temp gun. My head temp during a race is about 170 while the water temp is about 140. Thats the way it is on my motor. cr125

I run an o-ringed head on our Honda and see about 35 degree higher on CHT over the water temp. I believe Mr. McKnight told me 10-15 degrees higher is what I would see. Either, or, If I started to see a pattern different then what I'm use to seeing, I would start looking at a possible detonation problem. I look for drastic change, If I see none....I know I'm still ok.
