I have been told by some folk that the Horstman DXL will fit onto the
"normal" short crank set up on a PRD RK100, others have advised that a
longer crank half is used. What is the facts ? Is there a Clutch which will
fit onto the "standard" (short) IAME style crankshaft on the PRD, or even
the short Yamaha kt 100 crank.
This is not just a question about the PRD, really it is general for all
100cc 2-strokes, Yamaha, PCR, ITAL, Parilla etc who all have alternative
"long" cranks for use with a clutch. I know they have various taper
fittings, but it would sure be good to know for certain if there is a clutch
design somewhere that will fit the "standard" short crank nose on any, or
even only some of, them ?????????
Thanks in advance for what is probably a 'no-brainer' question to you
all!!

Chad, I'm not sure about the DXL since I currently run an L&T clutch. If you don't get any replies here though telling you one way or another email Kent Laukaitis at redfin@fgi.net and he'll be able to answer any of your questions. If nobody replies here and you ask Kent, let me know what you find out. I'm considering getting a DXL this winter after having a few clutch problems this season. Thanks.

It took me a few days to figure out your question. You can't do it, the DXL comes in basically two tapers Iame and Yamaha. the normal shaft the sleeve nut goes on is 10mm the short shaft actually takes a starter nut (12 mm). If anyone has made a clutch hub to fit the short pto I haven't heard of it. Also running an engine clutch without a third bearing support is not a good idea. you could quite possibly break a crankshaft since the chain is tensioning the crank in one direction.
what you need is a "short extension shaft" that threads over the 12mm threads of the engine PTO. along with that you will need a third bearing support. Comet kart sales or Lad specialties ( www.ladspec.com ) will ahve what you need

Thanks Rick,
Thats the first answer that makes sense. I have been trying to figure this out for weeks, and some guys are still saying there is a clutch which fits ?

No clutch hubs, just gear tooth drivers for the short shaft crank hubs.
