Seems that the motors are almost open. I was wondering what are the most common ways of cheating? I know bigger carbs but what else can be done? We check carbs, stroke and boar, fuel. What else should we be checking.

Thanks, Mark Billings

Come on Mark. Who would cheat...

I suspect you are talking about the Yamaha Classes, although you could be talking about any of the "spec" classes.

You can cheat in the following ways:
1. Straighten the crankshaft and rod.
2. Bore the engine in line and perpindicular to the crank.
3. Fit the piston properly.
4. Set the carb as the factory recommends.
5. Squeeze the fule/air mix as tight as possible, legally.
6. Light the mix at the right time.
7. The most important thing is to NOT do any thing that will cause drag, either in the kart or engine.

If you "cheat" this way and learn to drive hard, you'll win races.

Just remember this all important rule:
He who smelt it, dealt it! Everything else will take care of itself. An "A" to the first person to figure out what I am talking about (let me know as soon as you figure it out...so I will know!)

Mark, you raise a very interesting question. But I think you have missed the intent of the rules. The 80cc rules let the motorbuilders, both professional and amateur, freedom to experiment without breaking the rules. This is going to give the sport room to develope without hampering anybody that is willing to do such. Some of the basic factors to building power are how much air and fuel into the motor,(carb size).
Displacement of the motor, Bore/stroke. The ruling about OEM parts, keeps the factory rejects and or oneoffs out of the hands of people with "special" contacts.
IMHO, I can't figure out why someone would run a class where blueprinting of the basic components is illegal. Over the years I have seen "spec classes" come and go. It always seems that eventually someone will have "The motor." Then rules are changed, and the original intent of the class is gone, left with fully blueprinted motors that are just as expensive as all the others. The SKUSA rule book still has some holes that need to be plugged, please don't start debating, all I am saying is that the rules have not been under enough fire yet. The IKF book is in a constant state of revision, look how long it has been around.
OK, down off my soapbox, turning off the CPU, and unplugging the phone. Good night.

Cheating is easy, the real challenge is to beat the cheaters with legal stuff. Been beaten by cheaters, both 2&4 strokes, the biggest challenge is building my own 4 strokes that can win legal.

There is something you can put in fuel to get nitro and/or alky past the digitron tester. I've been trying to find out what it is but, everytime I ask about it, everybody thinks that I'm going to cheat with it. So good luck getting the cheaters to tell you how they cheat when we can't even have an intelligent disscusion about it ourselves.

Hey, if as you said, motors are essentially open, how can you cheat? Am I missing something here?

Cheating inside the motor is a waste of time somebody is gonna find it. You have to think outside the box. I have always subscribed to the "Dick Dastardly"book of dirty tricks. Here are my favorite 3.
1. Take a handful of red ants and drop them in your opponets lap just as you leave the grid they won't get into his suit till the 3rd lap.
2. Glue 60 grit sandpaper to your sidepods and grind off the sidewalls of your opponets tires.
3. while your opponet is sitting in the Porta John, fill his tires full of water. Oh and you can padlock the porta John too if it's close to race time.
