Wow... So then dare I ask--How does a "soft" magnesium wheel like a RR compare to any odd variety of aluminum???

Well Pete, if you are running at the national level, testing every little detail is the difference between winning and second place.

The most noticable diff we have noticed wiht Mags is probably related to the heat dispersion. The tires stay more consistent thru the entire race, especially the last 5-10 min. (road racing, BTW)

I've used both. The alum.(Van-K)has less weight at the outside. better acceleration, easier to fix. (can be welded or replace one half) but a pain to mount tires, compared to mag. Dap wheels can mount 4 in the same time as 1 alum. Also--mags are porous, will leak air big time, you have to annodize and/or paint insides to seal better. Also when mag gets loose on studs will chew up very fast, less tensile strength than flo-turned or stamped alum. alloys.[QUOTE]

Jack, good post, I had not seen anyone post that yet, that mags are prone to leaking. Remember old time car racers epoxy coat all mags so they would not leak. Also we run a european enduro(DAP), compare some of the european technology to american sometime. I have seen pictures of the Parilla factory, and the DAP facility, I also have been to Margay, as I live about 15 miles away, big, big difference. I am not putting any down, or elevating any others, but there is a different approach to kart racing european vs american.
