After last weekends practice, I find that I have a few sore muscles. No surprise, I knew I would.

For an over 35 driver, are there any specific exercises that are more helpful than others to help strengthen those muscles that I didn't know existed?

Anyone have a good routine that would like to share? Maybe something I can do in front of the idiot box?

Sex burns more calories than a good workout and is more fun, too. If your wife won't help then it can get expensive... Smile

I want to say I saw a special on the Discovery Channel, I believe, maybe it was a "bit" during an IRL race... Anyway it showed what I thought was the Andretti Green IRL team in the gym working with a trainer- The exercise that they were doing consisted of the trainer throwing a basketball sized ball, only considerably heavier, to the driver who was seated in a chair, and having the driver toss the ball back immediately. The objective was to strengthen the neck, back, shoulder, and arms while working on eye hand coordination. I think I recall them saying that they fire the ball back like that for as much as an hour at a time! It sounds kind of simple, but it looked to be very difficult. I bet you could do the same thing with a basketball, partially filled with water to add weight and make it more difficult to catch, and bounce it off a wall to yourself-delightfully irritating the hell out of your family/neighbors and confirming your lack of sanity. But then again, our families and neighbors already know we're insane when we tell them we race karts..so...happy bouncing.

The exercise that has helped me the most in karting is to memorize my debit card number along with the expiration date and the 3-digit code. Another exercise is to write a lot of checks blindfolded. This way you can be chatting with people in line and maintain eye contact while you take care of registration.
