I currently am racing Rotax Masters at my local sprint track, and was planning on moving into 125 shifter next year. However a new Road track is going to be built by Larry H. Miller (Main Website: http://www.lhmse.com/mmPark/ -- Track Design: http://www.lhmse.com/mmPark/diagram.cfm )
(Owner of the Jazz for those that don't know) here in Utah. It will be (2)-2 mile tracks that can be combined into one 4 mile track. With this new development I figured that there would be a possibility of Kart Road Racing in Utah. So Now I am wondering if I should get into a 125 shifter (And once in awhile road race this), or consider getting into a 250 Superkart (Of course would only be able to afford a used one). Or start with a 125 shifter and convert it if possible to a 250 superkart in the future) I have always wanted to Road Race Karts and the speeds of the 250 Superkarts really appeal to me. So basically, what would some of you opinions be of the following questions.

1. Are there currently any 250 superkart racers here in Utah that I could meet up with and see the Karts up close, and to talk about possibly traveling to the further races together to split cost if I were to try 250 superkarts?

2. What would be the chance of the 250 superkarts adding the new Utah track when done to there schedule of the events for the year?

3. If I raced 125 shifter. Could I convert a 125cc sprint kart into a 250 superkart? (I have the tools, space, and ability if I could find info on the conversion). Still tring to gather info, but how popular is it to run the CR250 engine?

4. Where are all the informative websites for 250 Superkarts?

5. Cost--I have the ability to do my own engine builds, and access to a machine shop. what is the average cost (Kart upkeep, tires, parts only) to run a kart in one of the series? I am not too conserned with travel, I have friends and family near most track location.

6. What is the health of the 250 superkart scene?

7. Last question for now. I could imagine how fun it would be to race these karts, but if I have always had the passion to race cars, with the speeds and technology of the 250 superkarts. Would most of you feel that it would satisfy most if not all of someones racing needs?

Just want to weigh all my options.

Superkarts are totally the most fun you can have in a kart.

I for one would travel to Utah to race at a new facility.

The new USSC series is going to be awesome.

Rob, if you want to get one-on-one with some SuperKart drivers, you might try to make it to NCK's March 19th season opener at Infineon Raceway - Sears Point, as US SuperKarts will be running in conjunction with this event.

Note: While the number of entries may not be very large, ICE and Unlimiteds run at virtually all road race events throughout the Western U.S.

There is the Kurpiewski family in your area. Not sure exactly where, but from there abouts.

Interesting development. Utah is IKF Region 11, so either a club could develop there and go IKF, or the current IKF Region 11 club, Northern California Karters may consider running events there. Or - maybe a club could be built around a WKA relationship. In any event, the Superkarts are currently running with a host club, mostly. Its hard to predict what will happen in the future, but anything is possible.

IKF runs an IC/E class and an Unlimited class which the F/Es are in. WKA only has Unlimited right now for both IC/E and F/E. USSC has separate classes, and, is more restrictive on what is legal, unlike an Unlimited class which is pretty wide open.

250s tend to have a specialized chassis, more braking, heavier front end, etc, to go with the increased bodywork

There are two classes of Superkarts - IC/E and F/E so, the CR250 fits in one of those. Singles in IC/E and twins in F/E

IMO - its improving. We are just moving up into the IC/E class for 2005 and it looks to be growing.

That is for you to decide.

As I said, we are just moving up, so we are newbies, and there are those that have a lot more experience that might have a lot more to say, and maybe different.

Thanks for all the info so far. Keep it coming.

I am heading to Vegas this afternoon to vist the parents and will be there until Tuesday or Wednesday. If somone in the Vegas/Henderson area wouldn't mind showing off their Kart that would be cool. Also does the Kurpiewki Family post on here, if not does anyone know how I could get ahold of them to possibly meet up and answer questions and such?
