Hello to all Western Competitors,

I have been talking to a few of you westerners and I need your help. Some guys do not want to drive to Atlanta for the National Championship Final. I would like your vote (if your a western competitor) on the following:

The Western Series will have 3 races that will qualify them to run for the National Championship at Road Atlanta in November.

-OR-

The Western Series will have 3 races that will qualify them to run for a Western Series Championship that could be held at Sears Point in November or possibly Laguna Seca (if we could run w/ the ALMS again).
Note- you could still go to Atlanta to run for the National Championship if you have run the 3 races though.

Please let me know your thoughts so we can get an idea of what the majority wants and how best to promote your series.

Thanks Again,

J.R. Osborne

Here are my thoughts:

Atlanta is a long trip that time of year what with school schedules and the like. Perhaps that isn't a big issue with more that a couple of folks. Still would love to have a single event though.

A Western Final race would be a good idea as an alternative. Sears in November is questionable in my mind. I am assuming this would be the NCK race Thanksgiving weekend. NCK decided in 2004 to drop this as a series points race and make it the end of the year event. This is partly because of the number of road race novices that attend that event. (That is now getting to be a fairly large group that are not technically novices, but this is the only road race they attend) Also, this race is always under a time pressure. NCK has reduced from 8 race groups down to 6, partly by being able to drop some of the regular classes from the schedule. So the USSC group would be on the track with a large number of karts, and with a wide range of experience. What NCK does in 2005 has yet to be decided, but, things have been getting better with the changes. Also, the weather is pretty iffy that time of year. JMHO

Laguna would of course be very cool.

Fontana is rescheduled for 11/11-13 - perhaps another option this time around.

I agree, I have made the trip to Laguna every year. Yes it is expensive to travel. It is time the west coast boys come out this way. WE all have familys. Fair is fair. The highways go east as well as west. We set this series up with a Final Championship race at Road Alanta. Lets keep it that way.

For any Westerners that are not wanting to travel East, really reconsider. I made the trip to RA last November and man was it awesome. I would rate the track more fun than Laguna too. Also, it's great to be the headliner class for a Karting event rather than the afterthough at a car event. The MotoGP is probably not going to be much better. Too bad too because we have more in common with the bikes than we do with cars.

Anyways, I loved racing back East so much I'm doing it again for Roebling Very Happy Can't wait to see ya'all down there! I here Roabling is as much fun as RA.......Come to think of it are there really any bad track down there? Cool

Well - sorry - didn't mean to say going East was the big issue. Ryen and I are planning an August tour for the MidWest and East - wherever we can find to race. Just with school and such, a two week trip is a bit of a go for a single parent with no team to help but that is a personal issue so let's drop it there.

I have been working on trying to sort how to go to the November event and would do everything I can to make it if it remains the final. I even said in the post above that I would prefer a single event instead of separate events. Be it East or West.

OK? Sorry -

Shocked east coast, west coast, Who are we Tupac and Biggie, I don't want to see Johnny West or J. R. Osborne shot at Laguna by a pit bike drive by anymore than I want to see Eddie Lawson or Riley Will knifed at RA. Can't well all just get along Laughing
Seriously, I've raced sprint karts and now ICE karts and lets face it Road Racind is just awesome. For some reason though we are fewer in numbers....whole other story on karting numbers too long to get into. The road racers need to stick together so we all have tracks to run at.
I hate saying it but maybe it is time for us "west boys" to make the trip.
But sticking together can make it a lot easier, I'm thinking it would be nice to just ship my stuff and have a little help from "east boys" on the delivery and visa versa for someone trying to come this way. Also, "west boys" gettting togethere and thinking of some ways of getting back there sharing trailers or shipping. Just a thought.
I'm all for battling like hell on the track but if we don't work together off the track there will only be a hand full of guys spread across the contry racing themselves.
In short, ya. I will make the trip can I pay someone to haul my stuff or help me on the east coast to recieve my crate if I ship it. Question

Riley....just be sure to make that other RA....the home of the Sacred Cheese Cow! Besides the 250's.....ain't nothing like watching a 2x2 rolling start with 100 125's.....or watching 50-60 briggs/yamaha cans going 5 abreast, bumper to bumper 10 rows deep heading down into T5 on the opening lap...its hoot!!

SHipping a kart makes it a lot easier than driving across country. Have done both numerous times.........just beware of falling tombstones!!

'03 Laguna we shipped our kart out and a EKN forum member, Steve Moore, a 125 racer, took his kart out of his trailer and brought it down to Laguna for us to use....trailer, tools and all!!!

We usually have room to fight another 250 in our trailer. Not sure what we can race this year, but pretty sure at least Road America. WOuld be willing to help anyone out.

After reading all the replys on this topic I have decided that I will support the series 100% and attend the final race at Road Atlanta in November.

As Mark Pollard mentioned though it would be nice if we could get together on shipping our karts to a fellow competitors shop and be able to work out of their trailer. I would definitely reciprocate for futre races out in the West!

Really looking forward to this years series -- see you all at the races!

I am not keen on the idea of driving all the way to Atlanta, but thats where the final race is, thats where I will drive if I have to. As mentioned in other posts, a little team work would really help out. Shipping for me is out of the question, trailering with someone else seems a more economical alternative. If someone out there has space, please let me know. By keeping the series as planed, we will create more stability. I know its hard and takes more time to go that far. It will be worth it.

As far as the Western Series we are going ahead and do three races on the west coast and have the finial at Road Atlanta in Nov. So all you West coasters get ready to do some driving. I have been looking into renting a trans port to haul 10 to 12 karts back at once if we can get the support/committment. Stay tuned.
