|
|
| Why don't we hear discussion on the possibility of 250 oval races. Wouldn't a scheudle mixing road coruses and ovals like CART be cool? One things for sure, there's places like Rockingham, North Wilkes and Darlington just sitting around so they should be cheap. I know I know. I ran the Yamaha oval demo races that Johnny J put on in front of the NASCAR fans at Darlington and except for the stands being full, it was a little dull driving all the way around with your foot pegged. However, something tells me it would be more exciting on a 250. And, face it, American race fans love oval racing. If you want to get media attention, give them somehting they can relate to. Something to think about. |

I do not think the tires woud take it. Very Dangerous inside the walls!
Just my thoughts???? |

The last time I remember is 1985 at the Milwaukee Mile. The 250cc supported the ASA or Late Model guys and just killed in laps times never to be invited back. I guess it was good because after 50 laps the tires I seen were down to the cord. |

If we could find a track with no walls that would be pretty cool, otherwise it would never work. I'd like to see someone balzy enough to run a f/e on a circle track hard, let alone race with other karts. guys die racing cars on ovals, I would never do it, just my thoughts. Are there any tracks without walls?

How would you determine the racing line if you have no walls? It would be a big skid pad!!!

I know a lot of dirt tracks used to run without walls, the bank remains but if you go to far up the track you just slide down the hill. The top of the bank becomes the highest possible racing line, depending on how brave you are

| Tires are no issue. Run SLs and if they don't hold up we could run Carlisle Super Slicks or Blue Streaks. Then we could see who can drive and who just has a bigger wallet. I ran with a couple of guys last year at Anderson Speedway on South Carolina. Its a 3/8 miles oval and the walls were scary but what a blast. With way opff gearing, all six of us (3 250 singles and 3 125GP engines including 2 laydowns) were all turning late model times |

I ran a short dirt track up here in NY in a 125 a long time ago, and yes it's a blast but racing somebody would be a different story.
It's really not a good idea and definitely not safe to race a kart that fast on an oval track, that's why it's not done. |

The guys at Daytona are sick. They last sprint race I saw on a wall asphalt was at IRP. The Yamahas and briggs did the ovals and sprint used a modified road course. It was one of the most unfortunate races for a specific customer of mine. It wasn't easy seeing one of my hand buit karts almost kill a guy. Fortunately, it was INdianapolis and Doctor Trammel was there to put him back together again. He still limps today.
Thanks,

I race dirt ovals on the east coast. I ran in the Tri State All Star Series. The last race was won by a guy with 2 TT75s on alcohol. Now I know that is only about 75hp and maybe 35 lb-ft of torque but it hauls pretty well. I wouldn't have a problem in the world running a 250. I don't know if you could do 50 laps though.......holy cow.....I am worn out after 20. My MyChron gold suggests that we are way over 2 Gs in the corners. You don't get much of a break on the straights, running well over 75mph on a 1/4 mile track. My head is ready to fall off when the race is over. Helmet lanyards are commonly used to help out.
Good Luck,

Our club ran an event on the oval at the Milwaukee Mile earlier this year. It was a blast, but we did have one wall incident, someone hit the end of the pit wall while coming off the track. Other than that, the track was so wide that normal karts (shifters on down) didn't get near the outside wall. We don't have any 250s, but my son's HPV hit 96mph in the draft with CIK bodywork. The shifters were around 110mph in the draft.
Alot of people loved it, but it had its tense moments, especially passing using the draft, without spotters and radios. |
