What do you think about having one 250 class instead of two, due to small number of total entries? We could give a weight break to the single cylinder entries to level the playing field, etc. We could divide the class when we reach a minimum number of entries, i.e., 25/25.

Larry, I think that this would be a great idea for local and club style events. A 50 Lbs difference would be a good starting point with twins weighing in at 500 Lbs or so to help participation. This way the people that run the twins would not feel that they have to buy all of the Ti and carbon fiber to compete. Many many twins weigh at or over 500 Lbs anyways. For the National type of races there should be 2 classes regardless of entry numbers or one class with twins at 485 Lbs and no weight for singles. Now that would be neat. A no weight minimum for singles........That should help bring them along!

Will and Larry,

Please visit the other topic under WKA 2005 Unlimited rules. We would love to hear from you on the west coast what you think about the WKA rules and weights for the classes.

I would be nice to have an East Coast/West Coast series and 1 National race somewhere in the Middle...

I kind of like the idea of making a 250 single competitive, lets keep kicking this idea around. Any breaks for 4 strokes?

No minimum weight would be fine as long as I could cut off both legs and my head. and make everything out of carbon fiber and titanium. Most singles are over the 460 anyway.

Riley, Great job at Laguna.

An idea that has worked back in the past in sportscars is to add weight as an individual wins. What about everytime you post a win you get to add 10lbs to your kart?

Don't shoot me out of the water, just posting some ideas...

Thanxs for the cudos Andy. What you have done with your consistency is awesome and something I wish to emulate, good on ya! The no weight single may not help everyone, but may help maintain and grow the sport. The one class idea is positive for competitors and fans alike. It is my opinion that a good running twin at 500 Lbs will still be faster than a fast single even when piloted be "mini" Tackett:) But hey, if it helps to level the playing field between the 2 engine specifications and grows the grid then great. I'm sure timing and scoring would approve.

Another idea is a BRC250FE spec series where all engine maintenance is done by BRC.........Mmmmmmmm.........A monopoly, I love the idea Laughing

Seriously, in ,many ways, the way our class structure is now is very good. It fosters creative thinking and engineering. Take Sam Wrights Rotax 257 girdle, there was a problem and he found an innovative solution. How about J.R. Osbourne's Ted Dale P1 Performance Twin.......That kart gets my head spinning every time I look at it.....Awesome!

A no weight single competeting against twins will appeal to smaller people, those of us that gravity affects greater will need to go with a twin. It would be neat to try and awesome to see what the Engineering that comes from the no weight single catagory could be. I would allow this rule to apply to single 4-strokes as well. This all may sound a little crazy but lets give it a try.

Yeah, but Ted has to eat a side of beef before the race. Laughing

To bad you and Ted couldn't make it to Laguna.

I would be one that would have to go to a twin. Riley you wouldn't know an engine builder that could supply me with one would you? Laughing
Especially the engine maintenance and support part.

I think with a little creatvity, we could get down close to 410-415 range. Of course, when we put the CR250 and ran it on a sprint chassis, we were down around the 370 range! At that, on the tighter tracks, like Grattan, Mid-ohio, I bet we could give a lot of the twins a run for their money.

At the bigger races, like WSC races, then spearate them. But for regional/club things.........

I think a few yearws back the MSES tried the combined grouping with no min on singles. Anyone remember for sure?????

For the KART races at the time I was ~410 with the Swift SC and Rotax 257 combo. It made for high cornering speed and good acceleration in the lower gears.

Someone please explain to me the reasoning behind making one 250 class. The two classes are already running together, so there is no track time issue, and certainly the cost of three extra trophies is not a show stopper.

I would love to see an East Coast/West Coast series that could support a great "National Championship" in the middle.

2 classes ICE/FE, 3 races per coast and one National Champion in each class.

The series could run alongside "any" regional or national series and could be supported by a few members of the series for tech/mgt of the classes.

The championship could include everyone to begin with due to the numbers and if it grows, you would have to qualify for for the National Championship like the SCCA does.

This would allow everyone to focus on 4 races per year at the best tracks in the US. I would love to see a series that resembles the best european series.

Any thoughts??

Randy, if you would have been at Laguna, you could have participated in just such a conversation.
