Gentlemen, somewhat off the subject.
Would you be interested in alternative power source for the beacons?
It seems like I go through AA batteries faster than, well you know what.
Just a question.

Ya!
Small motorcycle battery connected to the litle receptacle on the bottom side of the beacon.

Gary and Ed,
No, I was playing around with solar cell technology. I haven't been able to charge the batteries and run the beacon. (too much power needed) However, I can run the unit.

Cost is the major factor, cells are expensive.

I have a new array that I am testing now. I will let you know soon.

John

John

I had the same problem, I have made a small cart that holds the beacon and a battery the same as used in our starters. I will try to take a picture of it and post it here.

Update,
FYI initial testing went well,
the new panel can run the older style beacon and charge a set of batteries at the same time.
The true test was performed yesterday, at a club race. No problems at all. In fact the batteries are still running the beacon (approx 12 hrs without solar energy).

e-mail for details

It's an upgrade for the Mychron II unit only. You have a Pro system and they come with their PC download so you are ready to go.
